THE Passmores Co-operative Learning Community is celebrating a highly successful sporting year across its primary schools. This year Purford Green Primary School and The Downs Primary and Nursery have achieved the School Games Platinum Mark Award.
This was achieved through the dedication of staff and parents supporting sports competitions and lessons in school over the last 4 years. Potter Street Academy has achieved the School Games Gold Mark for another year and hopes to continue this trend, aiming for Platinum in the years to come.
The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and the PCLC schools are delighted to have been recognised for their success.
All the PCLC schools pride themselves in promoting all areas of PE. This has included supporting talented young people with extracurricular sessions at Passmores Academy; attending tournaments run by the local sports partnership; increasing the variety of tournaments children attended as well as promoting girls and children with special educational needs taking part in sports. All the schools value every child having access to high quality sporting opportunities as well as sending the best teams to competitions. They have also seen an increase in the number of clubs being run and attended at all schools.
Luke Hammond, the primary lead for PE said, “Our sporting achievements this year have increased across the three primary schools, and we have been taking part in more tournaments than ever before across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, with a focus on participation and enjoyment for all pupils. We have had over 100 pupils compete in competitions this year and are tremendously proud of them all for their dedication to taking part and trying new and different sports. It is fantastic to see all the pupils taking part in sport: challenging themselves, enjoying themselves and smiling throughout. To achieve the levels we have this year, we would like to thank all the hard work and dedication of everyone at our schools.
We look forward to another successful year of participating in events and trying new
sports and activities.”
Congratulations
