The Eagle has landed at the Gibberd Garden

Communities / Tue 10th Oct 2023 at 10:58am

THE EAGLE in question is a sculpture. On Saturday, there was a celebration at The Gibberd Garden for the installation of The Barclays Eagle by William Mitchell.

The Eagle by William Mitchell was originally commissioned for Sir Frederick Gibberd’s Barclays Bank, Bletchley Station branch in Milton Keynes in 1965.

When the bank was demolished, the sculpture was saved by Robert Double, an associate of Sir Frederick and hung in his North London garden.

The former owner, Diane Langleben, donated the piece to the Gibberd Garden Trust.

An event was held on Saturday on a warm autumn afternoon to celebrate the installation.

Film of speeches by Mike Danvers from the Gibberd Garden Trust, Diane Langleben and Harlow MP Robert Halfon is below.

There is also a film of a special performance by Razed Roof.
