ST Clare Hospice’s Christmas tree recycling scheme continues to grow – this year branching out into even more postcode areas across the charity’s catchment area.
The eco-friendly fundraiser is expected to be more popular than ever, with St Clare offering to collect and responsibly dispose of your real spruce, pine and fir trees once the Christmas festivities come to an end in exchange for a suggested £15 donation.
Last year, the Hospice collected more than 1,450 trees from homes across west Essex and the border of East Herts, raising over £20,000 to help fund St Clare’s specialist care and support for people living with a condition that cannot be cured, and their families.
Ellie Gale, St Clare’s Relationship Fundraising Manager, said: “If you’re looking for a simple, stress-free and sustainable way to dispose of your Christmas tree once the tinsel and baubles have been packed away for another year, then we have the solution for you.
“Our popular Christmas tree recycling scheme makes its return this coming January, helping to make your Christmas clear-up as easy as possible so you can focus on all the festive fun that the season has to offer.”
Booking is now open, with collections taking place between 11th and 13th January 2024 in the following postcode areas:
St Clare works in partnership with JustHelping and local waste management organisations to collect the trees from people’s doorsteps and then recycle them in an environmentally-friendly way. The tree chippings are used in a variety of ways, such as for animal bedding, turned into compost or used to make footpaths.
Ellie said: “This is the sixth year we have organised our tree-recycling service and we expect to be even busier than ever, so if you want to keep your mitts warm and avoid the long queues at your local tip come January, we are encouraging people to book their collection slot online as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
“Make sure to register your tree before Sunday 7th January and you’ll be well on your way to enjoying the New Year without the chore of clearing out pine needles from your car boot.”
Registration closes on Sunday 7th January 2024 at 23.59pm. You can book your collection via the JustHelping website here. Alternatively, contact the St Clare fundraising team on 01279 773750 or email them at [email protected].
