HARLOW Town 1st XI continued their fine start to the season with a 33 run victory over Walthamstow at Ash Tree Field on Saturday.

Asked to bat first by the opposition the Townies started strong thanks to a fantastic opening partnership of 119 thanks to Ashley Leat and Daniel Baldwin. When Leat fell for 26 just before drinks Town were looking to achieve a big score, but the drinks bought a change as Walthamstow strangled the scoring rate with some better bowling lines and picked up regular wickets of the middle order who were trying to force the issue. Baldwin finished with a very well deserved 78, looking confident and in control. When Taylor Wood fell Town were on 194-7 with 4 overs remaining. What followed was pure destruction of the Walthamstow bowling attack as Ronak Patel scored a quick fire 44 including 4 huge sixes, he was supported by Town skipper Ronnie Yates as the pair put on a partnership of 58 from the last 4 overs with Town finishing on 252-8.

In reply Walthamstow lost an early wicket thanks to Wilson, but they continued to score, regularly rotating the strike. Yates (1-35 from 10 overs) restricted the scoring and snared the wicket of the other opening batter, thankful to the safe hands of Ben Tyne who took 3 catches in the game. Walthamstow were behind the scoring rate, and as such gave Town opportunities and these were not wasted with batters 4 and 5 back in the pavilion in quick fashion. After some dubious not out decisions Town eventually made the breakthrough thanks to a run out courtesy of Dan Baldwin, followed quickly by Tom Wilcox (2-56 from 10 overs) removing the Walthamstow dangerman. Baldwin (1-49 off 10 overs) also got in the act trapping a batter in front of their stumps. It was then left to Sam Wilson to clean up the Walthamstow tail and in the process getting a 5 wicket haul. He finished with excellent figures of 5-48 off 8 overs. In the end the visitors were all out for 219, meaning Town were victorious by 33 runs. A really good team performance where everyone played their part, there is lots of optimism as Town travel to Neo CC on Saturday, themselves on the back of a thumping victory last weekend.

The second XI travelled to Walthamstow, similar to the 1st XI they were asked to bat, however the pitch conditions were less than favourable for batting. Town lost James Teale (4), Luke Luckin (2) and Dan Hawkins (2) early on, however George Richardson scored a fantastic 71, with the middle order also chipping in with valuable runs, Suresh Mohan (20), Anant Bhake (14), Ashley Norcott (14), Zabi Ebad (16 not out) as Town finished on 163 all out from their 45 overs. In reply all of the Town bowlers picked up wickets and James Teale took 4 catches as Town crushed their opponents and won by 51 runs. The pick of the bowlers was Suresh Mohan with figures of 3-13 off 9 overs. The other bowling figures were Zabi Ebad (1-38 off 9 overs); Vineet Jain (1-19 off 5); George Richardson (2-21 off 9); Anant Bhake (1-13 off 4); Dan Pullen (1-3 off 0.3).

Towns 3rd XI were due to play away at Thundridge however Thundridge conceded the game.

This weekend sees all 3 teams in action, the first XI travelling to Ilford to play Neo CC, the second XI at home to Frenford, and the third XI at home to Broxbourne.
