ESSEX Police has defended their decision not to arrest a man who is alleged to have given a “Nazi salute” at an anti-racism rally in the town centre.
The peaceful rally took place on Saturday lunchtime at The Obelisk. There were members from a cross section of political parties present as well as members of the public.
In a film seen by YH, a man in a mobility scooter is seen to raise his arm in the manner of the Nazi salute.

He is then escorted away in the direction of the Market Square by two police officers.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “Officers were at the scene of this incident and escorted a man away from the scene.
“He was not arrested but officers have noted his details and the incident has been recorded as a public order offence and an investigation is taking place”.
