Over 100 Sawbridgeworth residents fight to save Leventhorpe swimming pool from closure

OVER 100 Sawbridgeworth residents gathered outside Leventhorpe Swimming Pool, fighting to save the swimming pool from closure. People of all ages came carrying “Save Our Pool” banners and homemade signs, showing just how much Leventhorpe Pool means to them.
The event, organised by Sawbridgeworth Town Council, saw County, District, and Town Councillors standing alongside local residents, reinforcing their commitment to protecting this community facility. The strong turnout underscored how deeply the community values Leventhorpe Pool, which has been a cornerstone of local life for decades.

For years, the pool has operated under an agreement where East Herts Council covers 60% of its maintenance costs, with Leventhorpe School covering the remaining 40%. But earlier this year, government funding that made this arrangement possible was withdrawn. This loss has left the school unable to sustain its share without redirecting crucial educational resources, which is simply unsustainable.
Reflecting on the day’s event, District & Town Councillor Angus Parsad-Wyatt said, “Seeing so many people turn out shows just how much Leventhorpe Pool means to our community. This isn’t just a pool – it’s a place where people of all ages come together to learn to swim, stay healthy, and make connections. We’re all working together to help our MP show the Government that there’s overwhelming community support for keeping this facility open, and that the funding needs to be reinstated.”
