Harlow Council gives more details on sale of Barrows Farm Cottage

Politics / Sat 13th Jun 2026 at 12:43pm

HARLOW Council has issued a further statement regarding Barrows Farm Cottage.

On Friday, they secured an immediate High Court injunction to halt an unauthorised development on the private land off Elizabeth Way near Harlow Town Football Club.

YH noticed that the property was referred to as owned by Harlow Council in documents back in 2024.

So we asked Harlow Council for a few more details.

A Harlow Council spokesperson, said:

“The house and land were sold at auction on 16 April 2026 with covenants restricting its use and development, and a planning class that limits its use as a house only and not anything else.

“The council achieved a well above market value for the sale. Every penny from the sale has been directed towards the council’s regeneration programme.

“Within 24 hours of becoming aware of unauthorised development on the site, which contradicted the restrictions the council had put on the house and the land’s use, the council secured a High Court injunction to prevent such works.”
