Harlow artist to run 100km in one day for mental health services

A HARLOW artist is set to run 100km in one day to raise funds for mental health services.

Toni Frostick, 40, will take on the London 2 Brighton Ultra Challenge on May 24 in support of Mind in West Essex, after the independent mental health charity provided vital support for a close friend.

A seasoned distance runner, Toni ran a 50km event in aid of Bipolar UK in 2023 – but her upcoming ultramarathon will test her endurance like never before.

In taking on the challenge, she chose to raise funds for Mind in West Essex – which provides services and support in Harlow, Epping Forest and Uttlesford – to “give back” after her friend’s recovery from psychosis.

She said: “When my friend needed urgent help, they acted quickly and not only provided the necessary help but also guided me with the resources and support I needed to be there for them.

“I’m so proud of my friend’s recovery, and I’ve continued to rely on Mind for guidance in supporting my volunteers and staff. They do incredible work for our community, and this is my way of giving back.”

As operations manager at Harlow Art Trust, Toni supports staff, volunteers, artists and visitors using resources and training from Mind in West Essex, including The Mental Health Toolkit.

Toni, a pastels artist at Parndon Mill Studios in Harlow, added: “Mental health touches us all—whether we experience challenges directly or through someone we love.

“The team at Mind in West Essex does exceptional work where they provide crucial mental health support to those in need as well as activities and events that promote mental wellbeing and awareness.”

As her gruelling ultramarathon approaches, Toni has stepped up her training – recently completing a 50km run. She said: “That was my first ultra-distance run since my last big race, and I’m feeling so much better than I did back then.”

She is on track to hit her fundraising target of £600, as her donations tally has already passed £500. Visit justgiving.com/page/toni-frostick-1729862757266 to donate.
