More of the Harlow runners who beat the heat to conquer the London Marathon

Athletics / Wed 30th Apr 2025 at 09:08am

DOZENS of Harlow runners beat the heat to join over 55,000 other participants and conquer the London Marathon.

Conquer is the appropriate word as temperature rose in rhetoric capital on Sunday morning and afternoon.

In fact, 11,000 failed to finish.

When you have spent the autumn, winter and spring, training in cold or mild conditions at best, it is quite a shock to suddenly run in the mid sixties.

Although over 55,000 crossed the start line,

But Harlow runners adapted amazingly well to conquer all 26 miles, 385 yards of the 44th London Marathon.

We have already reported on Innovation Multisport and Hercules Running and Tri Club. Here are a few of the other individuals who ran. Heroes every single one.

Peter Coates

Many will know him as “Wintry Pete” as he is part of the family garage called Wintry Motors at Bush Fair.

Peter runs for Braintree Running Club and has, over the last few years especially, hit a rich vein of form.

On Sunday, Peter ran a remarkable 2 hrs 27 mins and 13 seconds. That is just six seconds outside his personal best from 2024 of 2.27.07.

Jasmine Brett:

Jasmine was running for Children with Cancer.

Jasmine finished in 6:18:52

Natasha Cohen

Natasha was running for Haven House.

Natasha finished in 4:30.09

Well done Natasha. Everyone is very proud of you.

Lois Jackson

Lois was running for Dolphin Ward (children’s ward) at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) in Harlow and The Haven House Children’s Hospice.

Lois finished in 4:44:24

Mark Grant

The machine that is Mr Grant of Hare Street Community Primary ran last year and he was back this year running for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH.

Mark competed the course in 4:39:38

Catherine Penketh

We were aware that a couple of weeks ago, Harlow Running Club member and ambassador for Junior Parkrun, Catherine Penketh had picked up a hip injury.

Now anyone that knows injuries, knows you don’t shrug off a hip injury. You rest and rest and rest.

But that’s just not Catherine’s style.

It was a shame as Catherine had been going great guns in training. She had been putting in 16 mile runs on a Friday followed by a 34 minute 5k parkrun, the next day.

But Catherine was determined to get to the start line and more importantly, get to the finish line of the London Marathon 2025.

Her time was 7:24:56. An amazing feat of fortitude and endurance. Just remember, 11,000 dropped out an unseasonably hot day.

After the race, Catherine told us that “found it very hard but the support was amazing.

“It was great to see so many Harlow faces around the course.”

Well done Catherine.

Olivia Corbett

Well done to Olivia, who conquered the mighty challenge, completing the race in a time of 5:56:

Olivia ran to raise money for the President’s Sporting Club

Jack Bradbury

Well done to Jack Bradbury. The busy doctor completed the run in 4:34:17.

Jack was running for Harlow charity YCT.
