Harlow Cricket Club’s 2nd XI secured a commanding 79-run victory over Buckhurst Hill CC’s Saturday 2nd XI in an Essex League Division 07 match held at Marigolds.

Harlow CC 2nd XI Innings

Batting first, Harlow posted a formidable total of 315 for 6 in their allotted 45 overs. The innings was anchored by a sensational knock from Gull Hassan, who scored a blistering 135 runs off just 72 balls, including 12 fours and 8 sixes, at a strike rate of 187.50. Gul’s power hitting and rotation of strike with quick singles were met with enthusiastic applause from the appreciative Marigold crowd.

He was well-supported by Abdul Munim, who contributed a steady 52 runs off 75 balls. Other notable contributions came from Zabihullah Hakimi (23) and Soulat Ali (20*). The team benefited from 38 extras, comprising 8 byes, 2 leg byes, 23 wides, and 5 no-balls.

In response, Buckhurst Hill managed 236 runs before being bowled out in 42.2 overs. Daniel Platt led the resistance with a valiant 76 off 47 balls, hitting 14 fours and a six. Hermes Michael Solomonides added 35, and Indika Wickramaratne contributed 33 runs.

However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to build substantial partnerships.

Harlow’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance. Jack Fuller and Sunni were the standout, taking 3 wickets each, while Amir Farooq claimed 2 wickets. Zabi and Johar also made key contributions, each securing a wicket to dismantle the opposition’s batting order.

3rd XI Report

Harlow won the toss and elected to bowl first and the game started perfectly with Oliver Allen getting a caught and bowled in the very first over of the game. However as everyone knows who has played at Woodford Wells, the runs are very hard to stop and Woodford Wells started to build some partnerships and scoring at a quick rate. Harlow’s effort in the field was really good throughout the 45 overs and we kept picking up important wickets throughout the middle overs to keep us in the game. Woodford Wells ended up scoring 292 which was a par score at that ground.

T Dobson 2/47, F Javed 2/75, O Allen 1/52, Z Ali 1/64, I Shoukat 0/44, R Williams 0/9

We struggled a little bit at the start of our run chase losing a couple of early wickets, however a nice partnership was starting to form between Naseer and Simon. The runs was never really an issue and it was more the wickets that was becoming an issue after Naseer was out for 36. Simon got a well earned 53 but was running out of partners at the other end. Harlow got bowled out for 201 with still 15 overs remaining which was frustrating but we definitely had some positives coming out from the first game of the season.

Simon 53, Naseer 36, Atif 35

Eliot Koopowitz steady the ship finishing his innings with 2 overs to spare trying to push the total towards 200.

Epping’s innings started very slowly due to tight bowling from the openers and excellent fielding. After 10 overs Epping were 22 for 1. Harlow continued to get wickets despite Eppings agricultural approach throughout reaching the target with 3 wickets to spare. A spirited attempt with lots of positives to take into next week’s game v Loughton.
