Harlow resident charged with strangling a woman and threatening to rape her

A HARLOW resident has appeared in court charged with strangling a woman and a number of other charges.

Monir Hussain, aged 33, of The Hides, Harlow faced the following charges at Chelmsford Magistrates Court.

Between April 1st and April 15th, 2025, at Harlow, intentionally strangled another.

On or about 19 Apr 2025 at Harlow, without lawful excuse, damaged furniture, clothing and writing on the walls to the value of unknown belonging to another, intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged.

On or about April 20th, 2025, stole passports, driving licence and two mobile phones, of a value unknown, belonging to another.

Between 01 Aug 2024 and 18 Apr 2025 at Harlow repeatedly or continuously engaged in behaviour which was controlling or coercive, namely telling the victim to stop being friends with males, accusing victim of cheating on him constantly, degrading her, threaten her with violence, tell her not to call the police, threaten to rape her and that he would throw acid in her face.

That behaviour having a serious effect on her and you knew or ought to have known that the behaviour would have a serious effect on her.

Hussain’s next scheduled court appearance is on July 18th, 2025 at Colchester magistrates court.

He was remanded in custody.

He has pleaded not guilty.
