Former Conservative councillor slams plan for digital ID cards

CLOSE TO 6,000 Harlow residents, over 5% of the 111,000 residents of the Harlow district, have now signed the online petition against UK having a mandatory digital ID system on our smart phones claims a former Tory councillor.

Nationwide, 2,877,918 people have so far signed the online petition against the government’s digital ID system.

Former Conservative councillor, Colleen Morrison said: “Prime Minister Keir Starmer claims his ID system is not mandatory, however he states that if, like millions of UK citizens, we don’t have smart phones, or if we refuse to have digital ID on our smart phones, we will lose the right to work, we will be unable to access government services and, or. benefits, we will be unable to vote. So, in the event of refusing to have this ‘non-mandatory’ ID system on our smart phones, we will be chillingly punished by being made ‘de-personed’ non citizens.

“PM Starmer claims digital ID will provide total security and convenience. However, the 3 – 4 million citizens who do not have smart phones, some because they are unable to use these, will not find this system very convenient. And in Estonia (PM Starmer’s stated role model of a successful and secure digital ID system) a hacker has hacked into the national digital ID system and stole the private details of hundreds of thousands of Estonians. In UK, under PM Blair, a lap top containing 24 million child benefit records was left on a train by a civil servant.

As Tony Benn often stated: an MP is in the unusual position of being one employee with thousands of bosses: politicians must therefore consult and listen to the people. Britain and its Constitution, albeit unwritten, do not belong to a temporarily elected party of politicians, it belongs to the people of Britain.

“I believe a mandatory digital ID system is a constitutional issue, one which requires a national referendum to determine it. No government has the right to force citizens to be part of a too easily abused national digital ID system, which will undoubtedly be used for mass surveillance and mass social and economic control.

There has not been any consultation in respect of this digital ID system, PM Starmer claims he will consult – with a cherry picked, restricted group, but not with the public.

Colleen makes a good point with "There has not been any consultation in respect of this digital ID system."

This Government has no mandate for this sinister, authoritarian measure. We risk sliding into an Orwellian nightmare where the historic relationship between Individual Citizen and State is drastically altered to the detriment of the former. Is it not noteworthy that none of the great Anglophone nations - whose systems are all based on the English Common Law - do not have ID cards: Australia, Canada, Canada and USA. How can the Mother Nation of Democracy & Liberty even contemplate such a perverse change. This must be resisted.

3 mil on a petition and no debate or vote this is Labour creating marxist China credit system and pure control over us. But not one party leader slagging it

Starmer seems to be taking George Orwellls 1984 as an instruction manual rather than as intended, a warning. He intially touted them as a way to stop Illegal Economic Migrants from working illegally, often quoting Estonia despite 18.5% of their economy being black market illegal working. In fact every single European country that has some form of work/I.D card system, still has illegal black market economies. This I.D. scheme IS more about monitoring the legal citizens of the U.K. and NOT the illegal people we have in the country

7th July 2024 , 3 days after being installed as the new Government, Labour ruled out I.D. cards for the U.K. From the Daily Mirror of that date "Business Secretary Jonny Reynolds initially suggested Home Secretary Yvette Cooper would look at "all sources of advice" on the issue in an interview on Sky News this morning. But he later ruled it out explicitly." He told Times Radio: "I can rule out ID cards for you. That's not something which is part of our plans. We'll be tough on crime, we'll be tough on the causes of crime. If we're going to hark back to advice from former Prime Ministers, I think that is the right method." A source close to Ms Cooper said ID cards were not Labour policy and the position hadn't changed." They lied.

They say if we don't accept Digital ID cards we won't be able to vote, well I'm not surprised by that as starmer knows ppl don't want it. Let's face the facts it means less ppl will be able to vote for reform. The man is peeing in his pants, knows he will not be re-elected I wonder why!?

I don't want ID cards for the same reason that are in all above posts. But it may be a good idea to be able to vote on the phone , as well as going to the voting booth. You would definitely get a bigger turn out.

Don't care about having them or not but I do care about the cost. Why are we doing this when the country is skint? They say it's about stopping the black market of illegal workers, what a load of nonsense. Won't stop a thing.

I bet Chris Vince agrees with it.
