QUITE a few members of the running community in Harlow have noted that they have not seen pocket rocket runner George Watkins at events such as parkrun.

When we say they saw George at parkrun, they saw him at the start before he disappeared into the distance.

A few years ago, former St Mark’s pupil George broke a Harlow Athletics Club age group 3000 metre record that had stood since 1970.

He made great strides when he joined Woodford Green and Essex Ladies Athletics Club.

Well, here is an update. George and his family have. moved up north and George now runs for Macclesfield Athletics Club.

George recently won Stoke Schools Cross Country Champs and also came second at the English Schools Fell Running Championships in Settle, a race he really enjoyed.

Well done George and good luck. We will check in on you in 2026 and beyond.
