ON 4th January 2026, Shaun Weston, Managing Director at British Offsite, will embark on The Last Degree Challenge; a seven-day, 100km ski journey across one of the harshest environments on Earth, pushing towards the South Pole in an extraordinary test of endurance to raise vital funds for St Clare Hospice.
The journey will begin with Shaun and his team travelling to Punta Arenas in Chile before flying deep into central Antarctica. There, at 89 degrees south, he will be dropped onto the ice, skis in hand, to start the formidable stretch to the South Pole.
Reflecting on why he chose to undertake the challenge, Shaun commented: ‘I’ve been fortunate to work with St Clare Hospice for several years now. The hospice has been there to support and deliver not just care, but as much normality and quality of life as possible, right until the end for patients and families.

I’m a thrill seeker and have wanted to do something for the hospice that would truly push myself to the limit both physically and mentally. It’ll be a journey of hardship and dedication, and from training to fundraising, the team at British Offsite and I are committed to get the job done.
An expedition of this scale takes immense planning, resources, and support. We simply couldn’t do it without the generosity of our patrons, and I’m incredibly grateful for their backing.’
Shaun’s extraordinary efforts have been met with gratitude from those at St Clare Hospice.
“We are absolutely in awe of the incredible dedication and effort Shaun, and his team have put into supporting St Clare Hospice,” said Amy Winehouse, Head of Relationship Fundraising. “Taking on The
Last Degree Challenge is no small feat – skiing 100km to the South Pole over seven days, in one of the most extreme environments on the planet, is an extraordinary commitment in every sense. Shaun’s determination to take on such a formidable challenge in aid of our hospice is truly inspiring.
Among the many ways Shaun has fundraised throughout 2025, events such as a family fun walk, charity golf day, a boxing spar‑a‑thon, hiking the Yorkshire Three Peaks and a gala dinner, have helped to raise over £100,000 already. This remarkable total alone could cover the cost of an entire month of specialist Therapy Team care – including physiotherapy and occupational therapy – for someone who needs help rebuilding strength, independence, and confidence during one of the most vulnerable moments in their life.
Shaun, along with everyone at British Offsite who is supporting and taking part in this challenge, are making a life‑changing difference for the people we care for. We are so grateful for his courage, creativity, and unwavering commitment to our hospice.”
