THE St Clare Hospice free sculpture trail, Lions on the Loose, brought to you by St Clare in partnership with global art producers Wild in Art, is one step closer to coming to life.
Sponsors of the large lion sculptures came together on Wednesday 28th January at Harlow Council’s Civic Offices to have first sight of the shortlisted designs – a vibrant and eclectic mix from florals to food to famous faces.

Rosie Knowles, Deputy CEO of St Clare Hospice, said: “Now the sponsors have chosen the designs for their sculptures, the artists will set to work over the next few months translating their fabulous ideas from paper art submissions to 3D lions. We can’t wait to see the sculptures take shape and share them all with you when the trail goes live on Friday 24th July.”
Rosie continued: “If you are a business that has missed out on the opportunity of sponsoring one of these fabulous sculptures, there are still a few lions available. Please get in touch with the St Clare Hospice team, as every sponsor will not only be supporting the specialist work of the hospice, but also aligning their name with a fantastic free public art trail taking over the streets and green spaces of Harlow and Epping this summer.
We’ve had great support from sponsors – ranging from large national companies like Stansted Airport, printers KGK Genix and Target Darts, to locally based organisations such as Greenacres Epping Park, The Water Gardens and Saunders Markets (North Weald market).
Lions on the Loose is proudly sponsored by Harlow Health Centre Trust, Harlow Council, and Epping Forest District Council — working together for the good of our local communities.
Charlie Langhorne, Managing Director and Co-founder of Wild in Art, said: “The moment when sponsors select their artist designs is a significant milestone for the trail. The quality and creativity of the shortlisted designs for Lions on the Loose has been outstanding, and it’s exciting to see how businesses are engaging with artwork that resonates with their values and stories. For sponsors, this is a unique opportunity to support St Clare Hospice while being part of a vibrant, high-profile public art event that celebrates creativity, place and community – and leaves a lasting legacy long after the trail has finished.”
