Two Harlow men charged with attempting to smuggle drugs into prison

TWO Harlow men have been charged with attempting to bring drugs into a prison.

Matthew James, aged 26. of Morris House, Harlow

and

George James, aged 82, of Morris House, Harlow

appeared at Chelmsford magistrates court charged with the following.

Between October 6th and October 13th, 2022, without authorisation conspired together with two others to bring, throw or otherwise convey a substance, namely synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonist, otherwise known as ‘spice’ a class B controlled drug, which was specified by section 40A(2) of the Prison Act 1952, into or out of  Her Majesty’s prison situated at Chelmsford.

They have both been sent to Chelmsford Crown Court for trial.

The next hearing is on May 19th, 2026.

Both were released on unconditional bail.
