Labour government’s Great British Summer Savings begin today

Business / Fri 26th Jun 2026 at 06:41am

CHRIS Vince MP is welcoming the start of the Great British Summer Savings today, 25th June.

The scheme will see VAT cut to 5% on a range of family activities, including children’s meals, across Harlow and the villages, just in time for summer.

The Great British Summer Savings is part of Labour’s wider support for families, helping put more money back in families’ pockets alongside free breakfast clubs and expanded childcare. It will also support local businesses across Harlow by helping more families enjoy days out, meals and activities in the local area this summer.

Picturehouse, Everyman Cinemas, Vue, Butlin’s, Wetherspoons, Shepherd Neame pubs, McDonald’s, KFC, and Burger King are among the businesses that have made the commitment to pass on these savings to customers since the Chancellor held a roundtable with major leisure and hospitality companies last week.

Meanwhile, the scheme will support businesses by generating additional summer footfall. Businesses up and down the country have confirmed their involvement in Great British Summer Savings, including some of Britain’s most prominent attractions and eateries. Small businesses including independent cafes and soft play areas are also participating in the scheme.

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), UKHospitality and the Society of London Theatre & UK Theatre (SOLT) have all backed the campaign.

Chris Vince, MP for Harlow, said: “I know how quickly a trip to the cinema or soft play can add up.

“Labour’s Great British Summer Savings will help families enjoy more of what summer has to offer for less.”

ALL families can enjoy children’s meals in restaurants and days out for less from today as the Great British Summer Savings tax cut goes live [25 June].

Are there any fines for any business that doesn't pass on the cut in VAT in the final price? Is there a money grabbing lowlife hotline to grass up rogue traders?

This is an excellent government initiative.
