HARLOW Town 2nd XI produced one of their most emphatic performances of the season as they swept aside Hoddesdon’s third string by 133 runs to book their place in the next round of the Herts and Essex Border League Shield.
On a warm evening at Lowfield, Town’s batting unit delivered a display of clean striking and intelligent tempo-setting that left the hosts chasing shadows from the outset. James Williamson led the charge superbly with a commanding unbeaten century, reaching three figures from just 59 deliveries in an innings containing 14 fours and two sixes.

Williamson was positive from the start but paced the innings expertly, first adding quickfire partnerships with Daniel Hawkins and Connor Teale before accelerating alongside Dipal Patel in a decisive unbroken stand worth 138. Patel’s fluent 49 not out from 37 balls provided the ideal support act as Town surged beyond 200 in their 20 overs.
Earlier, Hawkins had set the tone with five boundaries in a lively 22, while Teale struck 26 from only 15 balls as the Townies raced to 100 inside 10 overs.
Defending 204 always looked a daunting assignment and Town’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure. Oliver Rowell struck early with three wickets, while Callum Fitzpatrick and Simon Rowell each claimed two as Hoddesdon slipped rapidly behind the rate.
Richard Lavelle then wrapped up the innings in style, taking 3-1 in seven balls as the hosts were dismissed for just 71 in the 14th over. The comprehensive victory continues an encouraging run of form for Harlow Town’s second string, whose balance with both bat and ball is becoming increasingly evident as the season gathers momentum.
