A DEVELOPER is promising 99 “well-designed, attractive and liveable” houses and flats for Sawbridgeworth, including 40 designated as “affordable” reports the Stortford Independent.
Barratt David Wilson Homes (North Thames) has submitted a ‘reserved matters’ planning application to East Herts Council (EHC) for land at Cambridge Road, where 184 properties in all are planned.
EHC has already approved a hybrid application for the land: full planning permission for 85 homes, a new access onto Cambridge Road, a spine road, landscaping, associated infrastructure and demolition of a dwelling plus outline planning permission for 99 more. Barratt David Wilson now wants the green light for its detailed proposals.
The site is part of SAWB4, designated in EHC’s Local Plan for the delivery of “around 200 homes by 2027” in the north of the town.
A report to the council says: “The residential scheme has been designed with the aim of creating a community of new homes which are well-designed, attractive and liveable.”

The 99 homes comprise 14 one-bedroom flats, all designated as affordable homes; 28 two-bed houses, including 15 affordable units; 48 three-bed properties, of which nine will be for rent or part-ownership; and nine four-bed dwellings, including seven for private sale at market value.
The report says: “Forty affordable homes will be provided, equating to 40% of the total proposed. All homes are of an appropriate size with rooms that are liveable and comfortable. The tenure mix is to be comprised of 84% affordable rented units and 16% shared ownership units.”
