Nazeing residents celebrate digital project success

THE Treasure Trove Project recently celebrated the completion of its digital skills workshops at Hyde Mead House, an independent living scheme in Nazeing.
Developed to tackle digital exclusion, it’s aim was to support older residents across the Epping Forest district to build their digital confidence, reduce their isolation, and help them stay connected to family and friends.

The project was inspired by the memory of Tresure, a much-loved former Hyde Mead House resident. Tresure had family around the world but struggled to stay connected due to her limited digital skills. Her kindness and spirit inspired the project by helping others stay connected to family and friends, as well as accessing services online.
The project consisted of 6 workshops, designed to build confidence using mobile phones and tablets, improving participants digital skills so that they could access online services on their own. Many reported improved confidence, greater independence, and a stronger sense of belonging as their confidence grew as the weeks progressed.
The celebration event on 8 June marked the end of the programme, bringing together residents, partners, volunteers and supporters to reflect on achievements and recognise the collective effort behind its success.
Councillor Alan Lion, Chairman of Epping Forest District Council said: “This project shows what can be achieved when we bring people together with the right dedicated support.
Working through a team of tutors drawn from the Epping Forest District Councils Customer Service team and volunteer Community and Digital Champions, the impact on residents has been incredibly positive.
From building confidence to forming new friendships, we’re proud of what’s been achieved together.
My personal thanks to all who helped make this project such a success.
A community-driven initiative
The project was only possible with the help of our fantastic partners. Thank you to Epping Forest Community Champion Volunteers, Essex County Council’s Digital Essex Team, Social Telecoms, Rainbow Services, Epping Forest District Council, Nazeing Parish Council, The Digital Innovation Zone (DIZ) and community partners who contributed their time, expertise and support.
