THE work of four former Harlow College students is on display at Princess Alexandra Hospital.
An evening celebrating their work was held at the hospital.
We will put on a news item reflecting the evening but for now here are our interviews with the four artists.
Student: Adina Frunza is applying to study illustration
Artwork Title: ‘The Harlow Universe’ (glass panels at the side of the revolving door)
Adina said: “The design I have created for this project is overall inspired by Harlow and the Water Gardens artworks. I think that the place we find ourselves in at all times should give us hope for the better and good energy to keep going, just like our own little Universe. That is the feeling that I want to think anyone passing through the Alexandra Hospital doors is receiving — that it is indeed a place of hope, a place where things can be better.”
Student: Zhane Bertrand Pullen is now studying interior design and architecture
Artwork Title: ‘Peace, purity and happiness’ (wall by opposite the revolving doors)
Zhane said: “My artwork is based around my favourite flower sunflowers and my home town Harlow. I have created my piece to evolve around peace and purity and bringing the outside in, I chose sunflowers as they make me smile and I believe they make others smile too I feel the hospital is a great place for this design to be introduced as it’s very uplifting. The colours represent Harlow for the green-blue tones I see around Harlow every day.”
Student: Scarlett Bourne is applying to study illustration at university in September
Artwork Title: ‘Botanical Neurology’ (vinyl over the arch as you walk in)
Scarlett said: “My ideas behind this piece were combining the interesting imagery of abstract neural structures with calming floral designs. The colours and flowers I chose were inspired by traditional oriental paintings which seem calming to me. I hope to create a peaceful atmosphere by displaying the natural beauty in our bodies alongside intriguing floral designs.”
Student: Jada Green is studying architecture
Artwork Title: ‘Sculptures’ (outpatients corridor)
Jada said: “As Princess Alexandra Hospital is my local hospital, and as I have lived in Harlow my whole life, I decided to show the town of Harlow as a community. As Harlow is known for its amazing sculptures, I have included a range of architectural structures and sculptures, which are dotted around Harlow, through lino reduction. Overall my artwork is to represent Harlow, to show off a happy, prosperous town and a growing community that work together and a big part of the community is Princess Alexandra Hospital.’”
