Athletics: Double marathon triumph for Kelly

HARLOW Running Club member Kelly Burgess was the star of the weekend, completing an exhausting two marathons on what is still an unseasonal warm period. On Saturday she ran the Norfolk Coastal Trail Marathon finishing in 63rd place out of 145 finishers and 2nd Female Vet 45 in 5hrs 04min 11sec.
Then on Sunday she ran the Somewhere over the ‘Rayne’bow event on the Flitch Way trail at the village of Rayne near Braintree. This is an out and back course where you can run as many or as few laps as you wish, within the time limit of 6 hours. The loops are 5.3km in distance and so 4 laps is a half marathon and 8 laps the full marathon distance. Kelly completed 8 laps for the full marathon distance finishing in 22nd place out of 93 finishers in 5.59.39.
Completing 6 laps for a distance of 20 miles were Tracy Stratford in 29th place in 3.42.07 and Helen Barnes-Martin 33rd in 4.39.33.
Completing 4 laps for the half marathon distance of 13.1 miles were Teresa Stratford in 58th place in 3.02.52, Lindsey Pearson 59th in 3.02.54 and Julie Bull 65th in 3.52.55.
Completing 3 laps for 10 miles were Teresa Stickland 71st in 1.50.04 and Sara Coombe 74th in 3.47.25
Finally completing just one lap for 5.3K was Brenda Clayton 91st in 34.30.
Meanwhile at the Welwyn Half Marathon Lex Ellington finished in 40th place out of 260 finishers in 1.38.55, Mick Maddams was 74th in 1.47.59, Gary Mead 109th in 1.55.51, Rob Scott 110th in 1.55.58, John Edwards 209th in 2.16.55 and Debbie Cooper 222nd in 2.22.29.
At the Hull Half Marathon Paul Watts finished in 494th place out of 655 finishers in 4.53.07.
At the Leighton Buzzard 10 Mile race Andy Kinney finished in 263rd place out of 273 finishers in 2.02.44.
At the Ingatestone 5 Mile race Leanne Bennett finished in 46th place out of 191 finishers in 36.30 in her debut at the distance, Andy Smith was 48th in 36.45 also his debut, John Tennant 59th in 38.05 and Alan Wellbelove 89th in 41.27.
At the Give your Town the Run Around 8K race at Hoddesdon Alan Chatterton finished in 91st place out of 278 finishers in 43.19, Dave Goosetree was 92nd in 43.20, Sandra Webber 105th in 43.58 and Peter Cleverdon 249th in 57.44.
At the same venue in the 5K race Luke Healy finished in 43rd place out of 228 finishers in 31.32.
At the St Albans 5K Mike Woodruff was victorious in 1st place out of 54 finishers in a superb 19.16.
At the Weymouth Half Ironman Triathlon (1.2 mile open water swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run) Pas Blackwell finished in 81st place out of 2543 finishers in 4.37.16, James Keys-Kidd was 1141st in 6.00.49 and Jason Pite 1910th in 7.22.15.
On Saturday morning several runners completed at various parkruns including 48 at Harlow.
