THE Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, confirmed today to Robert Halfon MP that the new hospital for Harlow will, indeed, be a brand new build!

In his question to the Government in the House of Commons, Robert Halfon said: “I am delighted that my right hon. Friend has mentioned new hospitals [in his speech] because we have a new hospital coming in the Harlow constituency.

I campaigned tirelessly to secure a new hospital for Harlow and the villages and I am delighted that we will have a brand new hospital, fit for the 21st-century.

“Does he not agree that that shows the level of investment that this Government are putting into our national health service? Will he set out the plans for our new hospital…?”

Confirming that the cash injection for the Princess Alexandra NHS Hospital, worth hundreds of millions of pounds, will fund the construction of a brand, new hospital for the town, the Health Secretary said: “That is right, and of those 40 new hospitals over the next decade, one of the very first will be in Harlow.

“I am working very closely with the Harlow trust to make sure that that new hospital delivers what is needed for the people of Harlow.”

The Health Secretary even committed to attending the opening ceremony, when the hospital-build is complete, saying: “I very much look forward to working with [Robert], and perhaps even being invited to cut a ribbon in due course.”

He went on to praise Robert’s impressive record of securing Government funding for Harlow, saying: “I pay tribute to my right hon. Friend, who has been a champion of Harlow for the last decade and has championed the need for a new hospital in Harlow.”

The Princess Alexandra NHS Hospital is one of the first six brand new NHS hospitals to be built in this country and the multi-million-pound cash boost will transform healthcare in the town.
