Harlow Theatre Company launches 2020 season with 60s classic
FOLLOWING their record-breaking 2019 season, Harlow Theatre Company is opening 2020 with comedy classic Billy Liar, directed by Alan Jones.
Set in the swinging sixties in the north of England, the play follows Billy Fisher, a young man bored with everyday life. Billy attempts to alleviate his boredom by reimagining a more colourful and exciting existence, leading him into all sorts of predicaments as truth and fantasy collide – along with the people around him.
Billy Liar welcomes an exciting mix of both new performers and HTC regulars to the stage. Rebecca Lawson-Turner and William Tennison will be making their HTC debuts alongside established members Sarah Wiggins, Vanessa Wood, Emily Power, Steve Hannam and Jake Hannam, who takes the lead in the title role.
HTC’s 2020 season follows a highly successful year. In November, Paul Johnson’s production of Goodnight Mister Tom received sell-out audiences and was recognised with a NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) nomination for Isaac Wood as Best Young Actor for his portrayal of evacuee William Beech. Jeanne Kelly’s July production of Stepping Out – which received outstanding audience feedback – was also nominated by NODA for Best Drama. Results of these nominations are due in early March.
Billy Liar runs from Wednesday 26th – Saturday 29th February at the Victoria Hall Theatre, Old Harlow. Tickets are available online at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/harlowtheatrecompany
HTC are always looking for new members – both on stage and as part of the technical and creative teams that support each production. Find out more by visiting https://www.harlowtheatrecompany.org.uk/
