From The Mark Hall Academy PE Department
THIS year will see Tokyo host the summer Olympic games. During this lockdown, we have challenged pupils and staff to ‘trek’ to Tokyo. Tokyo is 9524 kilometres away from Mark Hall Academy.
Ultimately, we want pupils and staff to put the devices down and get their heart rates up by getting active and contributing in our Mark Hall TEAM Challenge of getting to Tokyo.
Head of PE Sasha Kelly said: “The current pandemic has forced us into leading a more sedentary lifestyle compared to normal, and as a PE Department, we wanted to encourage ‘devices down, heart rates up’ and get together as a Mark Hall TEAM to try and achieve the ultimate challenge – trekking to Tokyo.
It has been fantastic to see the levels of participation in this challenge and it goes to show that our pupils realise the importance of physical activity for their health.
There is a lot of healthy competition in there too, between our year groups, between staff and then there is the Year 7 and 8’s competing against Burnt Mill with regards to who can get to Tokyo the quickest.
Ultimately this challenge targets all aspects of health – physical health in getting active, social health in that we are getting out and collectively contributing as a team and mental health in that pupil’s have the opportunity to clear their minds, which positively affects their mood and their thinking.
We are supporting and helping improve the health and well-being of our young people not only now, but into the future and I thank the pupils and staff for their contributions so far – keep going and keep ‘KILling the KILometers!!! I would also like to thank the PTFA for helping to promote the challenge on our social platforms.”
