ARSENAL LEGENDS – In Conversation: Paul Merson, Ray Parlour, Perry Groves

Amassing more than 800 appearances for The Gunners between them, three Arsenal legends talk about their action-packed careers. Star striker Paul Merson – now a Sky Sports regular;  midfielder and fellow TV presenter Ray “The Romford Pele” Parlour plus fans’ favourite midfielder Perry Groves – now a talkSPORT presenter – will discuss the games, dressing room and training ground stories, managers, fall outs and more. There will be a chance to pose questions to the stars during the evening.

Paul Merson

327 appearances and 78 goals between 1986 and 1997

After making his debut for Arsenal in the 1986–87 season, Paul went on to play eleven seasons with the North London club. While with the Gunners, he was a key player in the club’s success under manager George Graham, winning the Football League Championship twice, the FA Cup, the Football League Cup and the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

Capped 21 times for England, he played in the World Cup and UEFA European Championships and is now a regular face on Sky TV.

Ray Parlour

339 appearances, 32 goals between 1992 and 2004

Ray Joined as a trainee and spent 14 years with Arsenal and was fondly dubbed “The Romford Pele” by The Gunners fans.

He won a Cup Winners’ Cup runner-up medal in 1995 and blossomed following the arrival of Arsene Wenger the following year, being part of The Double-winning teams of the ’97 to ’98 and ’01 to ’02 seasons. In the 2002 FA Cup Final he famously scored a 30-yard screamer against Chelsea.

His trophy tally with Arsenal includes three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, one League Cup and one European Cup Winners’ Cup.

Capped ten times by England, nowadays, he is a TV pundit and regular radio presenter on TalkSport and BBC Radio 5 Live.

Perry Groves

155 appearances, 21 goals between 1986 and 1992

Perry joined Arsenal in September 1986, signing for £50,000 and becoming the first acquisition by new manager George Graham.

In his first season at the club he helped set up Charlie Nicholas for the winner in the 1987 League Cup final, dribbling past three Liverpool players before laying the ball off.

Noted for his enthusiasm and hard work, he started most of Arsenal’s games in the 1987–88 season partnering Alan Smith.

He made 21 appearances in Arsenal’s title-winning 1988–89 season, and helped to create the space when Michael Thomas famously scored the title clinching goal at Anfield in the final game of the season.

Today he is a TV presenter and pundit and can often be heard on Talksport Radio.
