Letter to Editor: Thanks to all those who helped during Storm Eunice

General / Sat 19th Feb 2022 at 12:09pm

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the wider community can I express our collective thanks to all the emergency services, Harlow council, HTS and the many neighbours, friends and volunteers who are helping Harlow recover from the storm.

I was empowered to express my thanks as this morning I have seen several examples of communities coming together helping others.

Helping clear up or just checking on each other.

It makes you reflect on how we all have pride in our community and how we as Harlow come together to support each other.
For all the heroes.
Thank you
Tony Durcan.

What is Tony Durcan talking about? I saw service in the Falklands. Heroes? HTS? Most of the time they are sitting in their vans drinking tea or coffee. Just look at the state of Harlow. HTS is a complete rip off. Why does the council even have HTS. They could hire proper professional firms to do the work instead of these cowboys. I bet it would be better and cheaper. Tony Durcan needs to open his eyes as to what hero means.

I think calling HTS heroes is a farce. I know a good number of council tenants who reported issues with their properties only for some HTS person to eventually turn up and do nothing. What is the deal they have with Council? My cousin who lives in Epping says that they never seem to have the trouble we have in Harlow and Epping always looks so nice and neat. Our town has really gone down hill. If HTS are responsible for house maintenance and public areas, it is high time to get some one else. They are useless. Who is paying for this?

It might help if you read the letter of thanks as this makes reference to the wider community not just HTS. I witnessed people helping people without question of favour.Hero’s come in all shape and sizes. You don’t need to carry a gun to be a hero. People value kindness. I remain very proud of my community and I don’t apologise for viewing these acts of kindness as hero’s.

Community solidarity is great. However, HTS is a failure. They are inefficient and have not maintained the environment or houses properly. The Council needs to get a new contractor.

I read this article as a thank you to the dedicated staff that gave their time working from early morning through the night all weekend. I do not think its fair that any criticism should be directed at them

HTS get well paid for doing very little. They sat at home during the pandemic when they could have used the time to do hedge trimming and grass cutting safely outdoors. About time they did some work. That what they get paid for.
