E-scooter driver banned from driving and fined.

A HARLOW man has been banned from driving and fined for riding an e-scooter and possessing an offensive weapon.

Tommy Preater, aged 26, of The Hoo, Old Harlow, pleaded guilty to the following.

On November 10th, 2021, at Harlow without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, had with you in a public place, Momples Road, an offensive weapon, a knuckle duster.

On November 10th, 2021, used a motor vehicle, namely e-scooter, on a road, or other public place, Momples Road, when there was not in force in relation to that use such a policy of insurance.

On November 10th, 2021, drove a motor vehicle, an e-scooter on a road, Momples Road, otherwise than in accordance with a licence authorising you to drive a motor vehicle of that class.

Preater was fined £379.00 and banned from driving for six months.

This is such a folly, in this day and age I feel we should be actively encouraging commuters to travel by sustainable means. I note that there is no suggestion that the gentleman in question was engaged in reckless or antisocial behaviour, just a commuter traveling to or from work..

@Neil Warner-Baker, a COMMUTER travelling to or from work! He had a vehicle on the road, NO INSURANCE, carrying a knuckle duster! I wonder what kind of job he has?

Forgive my ignorance what is the insurance policy on electric scooters I thought you can use them on cycle tracks not main roads?

Well if he was in possession of a knuckle duster he's probably some sort of cleaner
