CENTRAL Government continues to recognise Harlow & Gilston Garden Town as one of the largest growth and regeneration projects in the UK by awarding almost £700,000 in revenue and infrastructure funding via Homes England.
With 23,000 homes planned across four new Garden Town neighbourhoods and in Harlow itself, the funding will be used towards programmes and projects that will help Harlow & Gilston Garden Town’s five council partnership shape the future for not only existing and new residents but the generation that follows.
The money is part of a £15m funding pot to support delivery of thousands of new homes in Garden Communities across England.
“We’re delighted that Homes England and the Department of Levelling Up, Homes and Communities continue to be supportive of our vision for the future,” commented Garden Town Director, Naisha Polaine.
“Five councils united by a collective goal of sustainable local growth and creating new opportunities is something that local residents in East Herts, Harlow and Epping Forest can be very excited about.
“We are making great progress towards Garden Town delivery and this summer will be another exciting time with the Garden Town continuing to consult and engage with residents and ensuring they’re informed and involved in Harlow & Gilston every step of the way.”
Nationally, £69m will deliver up to 16,000 homes per year from 2025, creating almost 200,000 jobs and boosting the economy.
It supports the Government’s plans to level up the country, regenerate underused land and bring forward beautiful new developments,
Housing Minister Rt Hon Stuart Andrew MP said: “Building beautiful new homes in the places they are most needed lies at the heart of the Government’s levelling up mission.
“Garden villages and towns are perfect examples of the vibrant, green communities we want to see right across the country and today’s funding will allow us to work hand-in-hand with local leaders and industry to deliver the high-quality new homes that we need.”
Tell me, why don't you tell people in your posts what you will be doing to our beautiful river stort valley.???? I want all of Harlow and surrounding eares, to know, by building all theses unaffordable housing estates on our WET LANDS, AND A 4 LANE ROAD RIGHT THROUGH THE RIVER STORT VALLEY. 6,000 signatures against this monstrosity, it was IGNORED by 3 councils. It was IGNORED. They want to give us man made green spaces, while FAILING missserably to tell people the real truth. The destruction of this beautiful peaceful place, the only peaceful place we have in Harlow now, its an absolute disgrace, and I say shame on you all, all 3 councils will be remembered for this trashing of our river. Don't mention mental health to us, when all you want to do is take away theses beautiful places. You want to be seen to plant new trees, while failing missserably to tell people the truth. And the truth is that theses things are NEVER MENTIONED IN YOUR POSTS. WHY???. you don't have a care or thought for public opinions, all you care about is greed and profit. Just to mention over 5000 people waiting for homes in Harlow a lone, 99 council in fase 1, is this listening to the needs of Harlow, up against thousands an thousands of unaffordable. It's all rubbish, it's all about greed.
kim, people need homes why not give up yours as you are clearly in the nimby crew
Nimby, people do need homes, 5000 people need homes, and most carnt afford what there building. And as for give up mine, I'm in a council place, and have been for 40 years. So don't talk silly. They are building thousands an thousands of unaffordable housing estates, 99 council in fase one, you work out the needs of Harlow.
Nimby, you are right, people do need homes, 5000 on Harlow Councils list and thousands more on the list of neighbouring Authorities are a testament of this, but not a single council house amongst the thousands of homes being built around Harlow. Many people living in larger homes would like to downsize, but guess what, no such homes for older and or impaired people are being built, so those such homes that do become vacant cost more than those potentially being vacated. This whole development does nothing but line the pockets of housebuilders and their shareholders. Thousands of residents will need to commute to work, shop and to visit leisure facilities because there is very little else other than homes on these sites. This just adds to congestion on Harlow's roads, because there are no new roads leading north from the development.
