Surely the town park field would have been a better location then having it outside the Playhouse, Taxi bank, St.Pauls and the run down abandoned housing unit opposite.

I paid a visit to the Town in the day to see the "Celebrations", and to be honest I feel sorry for the few who made the effort. There was nothing of any note, attendance was poor and very little actually happening. Looking at the video and attendance it appears the evening event was not much better. The "beacon" looked like a modified patio heater. Why was a proper day and evening event arranged in the Town Park using the Bandstand or at least something arranged for say tomorrow (Saturday). Frankly what was organised was an embarrassing event which vast majority of the Town was unaware of. There was a far larger attendance at he recent locally organised Potter Street Fete. Question wether the Council should have contacted them for ideas. An Ice Cream Seller further up in the Water Gardens commented was it busy as he said trade was down on a sunny day. This should have been a big celebration but turned out to be a flop. Lets hope that in the future when there will be a Coronation to celebrate the Council will have plans for a big event already prepped. If not speak to the Committee at Potter Street for advice. Only other issue, Bank Holiday, possibly more people still working Thursday and Friday than off. Marks out of ten Harlow Council got to be just 1.

I wonder why the actual beacon on Jean McAlpine Park wasn't used? This would have been seen by the majority of town.

A list of beacons throughout Essex did not even mention Harlow!

Its such a shame that Harlow Council continue to fail to engage with residents. Who knew that a town crier would be on the Council balcony and of the event in front of The Playhouse? An special edition of Harlow Times should have been distributed to every Harlow household in the days before this weekend, the council's notice boards around the town should have advertised the event and been promoted on Harlow Council's website. As has been said, the town has a beacon at Jean McAlpine Park, if it is not going to be used for this event, when will it ever?

Such a waste of the lovely beacon at Jean Mcalpine Park. There are fantastic views of harlow up there and it would have been seen . Also how can a town of this size not have a local paper anymore. Not everyone is "on line" or have iPhone. People don't know what's going on anywhere.

Re local paper. In the last three years, YourHarlow has had 13 million page views. It has published over 10,000 stories. The idea of a printed local paper going through the door of every house is (probably) in the same historical bin as Kodak Cameras and Blockbuster Video. Over 20% of the town follow YH on Facebook. A printed paper could work but a very limited rollout (10,000 copies). Thanks for looking in though.
