Harlow Poverty Alliance set to host conference

News / Sat 11th Jun 2022 at 06:25am

SPACES left at the Harlow Poverty Alliance inaugural conference on the causes and impacts of poverty in the town.

The Harlow Poverty Alliance is a multi-agency forum created to consolidate the ways to address the causes and impacts of poverty in the town.

On 24th June their inaugural conference aims to recognise the experience of those living in poverty and share information on how help can be improved for those in this position. The conference has contributions from many of the voluntary agencies in town as well as from Harlow Council, Essex County Council, Robert Halfon MP, and people with a lived experience of poverty.

The Poverty Alliance brings together 22 different organisations and is chaired by Andy Thornton, CEO of the Michael Roberts Charitable Trust who commented,

“It is hard to recall such an urgent time for this event. The cost-of-living crisis, 10% inflation, hot on the heels of COVID… it’s a nightmare scenario. There may be no simple, magic answers, but the need to work together across all sectors has got to be part of it. The Poverty Alliance formed during the pandemic and has been helping behind the scenes. Now it’s time to be more public and together face up to the realities of growing hardship in the town.”

The Alliance hopes that participants will leave understanding what each of them can do to help tackle poverty in Harlow: separately and together.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 pm at Harlow Rugby Club.

Enrolment and full details can be found on https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/harlow-poverty-alliance-summer-conference-2022-tickets-329526581877

The conference has been sponsored and is free, including the closing lunch. All are welcome.
