Athletics: Lucy Barnes’ sub-three hour marathon highlight of great weekend for Harlow runners

HARLOW Running and Tri Club member Lucy Barnes became the first woman in the Club’s history to run a sub 3 hour marathon. Lucy completed the Brighton Marathon on Sunday morning, finishing in 132nd place out of 8464 finishers and 2nd Female in a fantastic 2hrs 56min 00sec. This was a Female Senior Club Record by over 24 minutes in what was her debut at the distance.

Lucy was followed by Timothy Woods in 843rd place in 3.23.19(PB), Mathew Spires 1205th in 3.32.34(Debut), Phil Middleton 2190th in 3.50.26(Debut), Gary Mead 3058th in 3.57.34(Debut), Kelly Spires 4569th in 4.24.59(Debut), Jane Evans 5295th in 4.37.10(PB), Debbie Mead 7227th in 5.22.22(PB) and Paul Watts 7650th in 5.36.04.
Meanwhile, at London Landmarks Half Marathon, passing the Capital’s most iconic landmarks including St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, Monument and the Tower of London, Chris Mella finished in 585th place out of 17,162 finishers in 1.36.27(PB), Tracy Stratford was 2148th in 1.49.17(PB), Tyrone Mustafa 5197th in 1.55.47(PB), Alison Wilkinson 6770th in 1.59.51, Charleen Tillotson 10,229th in 2.17.51(Debut), Michael Gleeson 11,133rd in 2.23.53 and Dawn Elford 16,548th in 3.10.13.
At the High Lodge Half Marathon, a trail race through Thetford Forest, Anna Robey finished in 128th place out of 153 finishers in 2.30.23 and Michael Robey was 129th in 2.30.25.
At the Southampton Half Marathon Susan Maloney finished in 1637th place out of 1986 finishers in 2.24.38 and Janet Webster was 1747th in 2.31.09.

Several runners completed the St Clare Hospice 10k, at Hastingwood, just outside Harlow, raising much need funds for the Hospice. Rob Lowe was first home in 3rd place out of 336 finishers in a PB time of 34.17, which is a new Male Vet 50 Club Record. He was followed by Noel Thatcher in 16th place and 3rd Vet 50 in 38.38, Ryan Smith 21st in 39.35 and Scott Bird 22nd in 40.24(PB). First female was Terri Wiley in 33rd place and 1st Female Vet 35 in 41.33(PB), Sandi Rust was 77th and 1st Female Vet 55 in 47.50, Allison Beeton 78th and 2nd Female Vet 55 in 48.03(PB) and Kerry Mavris 107th in 50.38. There were PB runs from Chris Arnell 61st in 45.55, Jamie Olsen-Ferriera 109th in 50.51, Colin Langbridge 183rd in 54.54 and Karen Greenall 268th in 1.03.51.

At the Easter Walk 50km, starting at Winsor Great Park and continuing along the Thames Path, Laura Prime finished in 32nd place out of 893 finishers in 5.39.36.
At Harlow parkrun Donna Milton finished in 52nd place out of 215 finishers in a PB time of 25.15 and Emma Luck was 72nd in a PB time of 26.35.
Brilliant achievements everyone and great ambassadors for Harlow. A really good news story.
