Harlow road users urged to play their part this Road Safety Week

AS part of Brake’s Road Safety Week 2023, Essex’s Head of Road Policing has laid out key priorities, in tackling the issues of speed and dangerous driving.
Road Safety Week takes place between 19-25 November, with a different theme each year and will include a variety of activities and interventions, across the county, including “mini days of action” at local schools and Vision Zero enforcement days.
This year’s campaign is “Let’s talk about speed,” which aims to get people talking about speeding, why there are some who disregard restrictions and what happens when we speed.
In the last year in Essex, speeding was the contributory factor for three fatalities, and 53 serious injuries.
Adam Pipe, Head of Roads Policing, said: “We’re working with the Safer Essex Roads Partnership to make roads in Essex safe for everyone, to improve road safety across the county and reduce the number of fatalities on our roads. Last year, 48 people died as a result of fatal collisions, but through the Vision Zero campaign, our ambition is to have no road deaths by 2040 or sooner.
“We’re prioritising road safety by identifying offenders whose poor and dangerous driving presents a risk to other road users and focussing on those vehicles that are unroadworthy, to take them off the road and prevent harm to our communities. We’re also working with the vehicle industry to improve car safety.
“Each day, my officers uphold the law and tackle dangers on the road that threaten road safety across our county and contribute to fatal or seriously injured collisions – drink or drug driving, speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, or using a mobile phone whilst driving collectively, they’re known as the Fatal Four.
“We’d encourage drivers to support our work and consider their and their passengers’ safety each time they get behind the wheel”.

Maybe Essex Police should monitor the A414 between Harlow and Chelmsford. So many drivers seem unable to drive beyond 40mph on a national speed limit road, causing impatience by those stuck behind them. Drivers going too slow can also be considered dangerous as it makes others take risks trying to overtake them.
Darren I get you ,it does cause problems. I personally would like to see Essex Police out doing driving licence checks!
Need to stop the motorbikes past Gilden park to the M11 You need speed bumps and cameras
If people have taken a driving test they are hardly at school unless your a teacher, get out on the road and nick offenders instead of relying on cameras, do your jobs!!!!
Even The police don't signal at rounder bouts.
3 deaths related to speeding is so low that it really confirms the main reasons for targeting speeders is because it's the easiest form of revenue. I suspect speeding wasn't the highest cause of death category of fatalities on the road. 3 in Essex is so low its confirms enforcement, punishment and number of speed cameras are currently sufficient. You will never get the number to zero, it would require exponential effort vs being happy with 99.99% Use the funding to cath car related thefts, that's a more pressing issue in Harlow.
How about the council sorts out the holes so we don't have to swerve or damage our cars? The road from the football club ton Burnt Mill is atrocious- huge deep holes again even though supposedly patched this year! And don't get me started on those riding e-scooters at night wearing black and dashing across tge Road without looking or slowing down or zoominground Staple Tye shopping area
Please also do some about drivers eating/drinking at the wheel, cyclists and e-scooters on narrow pavements. Are -scooters permitted to ride on cycle paths, thought only on private land, with landowners agreement only?
A few very very fast e-bikes and scooters being used on Katherine’s way cycle track, pavements and up to the pinnacles area..mid morning and later in the day…not legal use. Huge holes still in the road down past the golf club and along Elizabeth way if a motorcycle / scooter moped wheel drops in them it could be game over esp in the dark or wet where they just look like shallow puddles…it’s a 50mph road.
Do something about pushbikes with no lights on
I thought the head of Harlow police was going to crack down on excessively noisy motorbikes
Instead of having cars tested and made "Road worthy", how about make the roads car worthy, the amount of damage done to my last car due to the absolutely disgusting state of the roads all around Harlow, in the end it was costing too much to keep repairing.
We pay so much for council tax and road tax and the roads are terrible. Last year I had to replace a wheel and suspension on my car and the council refused to reimburse me even though I had all the proof they asked for. Fix our roads before trying to fix us. Speed cameras are out up to generate money rather than actually keep us safe. A pothole on a corner can cause a serious accident. Offer road safety course to all road users.
I 100% agree with road safety but the biggest Course of accidents on the roads here in Harlow and all over the country is pot holes. There is no excuse for poor driving but then again, there is no excuse for poor road. maintenance.
I think the UK police stops giving licenses to european people and other people who drive on the right side of road. Same As American do. And the uk license is very hard to pass. So you have to know all the rules and follow them to get the licenses. And also they should work on increasing of premiums every year for no reason!
