On reading the full story it's clear that the rail companies frequently prosecute when people aren't able to pay because when they arrive at stations the ticket machines don't work and station ticket office is closed. They then even prosecute people who try to pay at their destination. The companies are surely breaking their contract, terms of service or licence to operate and should suffer heavy fines and should be made to compensate all those subject to their bullying tactics, employed solely to raise profits for what are private companies. All trains should have a tap on tap of system and a conductor, problem solved. Transport is a public service and the railways like so many messed up privatisations (eg Sewage generators called water companies) taken back into public ownership rather than be used to fill the wallets of mainly foreign governments and speculators
All private companies like to prosecute to gain gain cash. Nothing will change but a face in charge. Same as the government.
