As testament to the legacy and influence Gerda Rubinstein has left Harlow, young local artists, Jordan Cook, Laura Bracey Curry and Snootie Studios have been commissioned for a series of artworks related to Gerda and her sculptures.

Throughout August, visitors to the gallery have been able to watch Jordan at work as he moves away from his familiar medium of charcoal to explore and portray Gerda’s ‘City’ in Bishopsfield, with acrylic paint.
In the meantime, Laura has continued to work on her display ‘Two Eagles and a City’ which she began in The Gibberd Gardens which was once home to Gerda’s friends and patrons, the Gibberd’s.
Both these completed works will be revealed between 2pm – 4pm where you will also have an opportunity to meet and speak to the artists. Tea and cake will be available.
Sunday 8 Sunday
2pm – 6pm
New Wave, The Gibberd Garden
Free Admission to the garden and the workshop
Join Velo artists Snootie Studios and Laura Bracey-Curry for a free bead workshop, inspired by the work of Gerda Rubinstein, and her relationship with Pat & Fredrick Gibberd.
In the workshop you will craft unique bead pieces, phone charms, and friendship bracelets, using second-hand beads. Inspired by Rubinstein’s ‘Potentate’, you will explore how to translate her sculptural forms into wearable art. The workshops are aimed for young people aged 16-25.
They will take place in the enchanting Gibberd Garden. Marvel at the stunning landscapes, sculptures, and art while enjoying live music from Six on Sax.
The Velo Artists will be arriving in style on cargo bikes. You can discover your way to The Gibberd Garden by train, bus, car, cycling or foot by clicking here where you can also learn more about our partner and their events.
‘Gerda and her Guardians’ is a celebration of artwork by Gerda Rubinstein and her special relationship with Harlow. The exhibition runs Saturday 14 September. It is open every day except Sundays and Bank Holidays from 11am – 4pm.
