What happens at Pets’ Corner during the Town Park fireworks display?

ENSURING the health and wellbeing of the animals at Pets’ Corner is a big part of Harlow Council’s preparations for the event.
The amazing team at Pets’ Corner, which is made up of staff and volunteers, spend the day preparing the site and the animals.

They cover up all the small animal enclosures to prevent light disturbances and reduce some noise, a darker environment helps to keep them calm.
All the animals are kept inside the main part of Pets’ Corner and not in the paddocks. Each pen of animals has a keeper assigned to their care and a keeper that they are familiar with. For the evening that person is responsible for feeding that animal as soon as the fireworks start. This does absolute wonders as it keeps the animals distracted and calm. The keeper will stay with that animal, providing them with treats and reassuring contact if needed.
Regularly contact between Pets’ Corner and the council staff running the event is maintained leading up to the fireworks and during the display. Staff at Pets’ Corner are given regularly updates on when the fireworks will start so they can get ready to feed and monitor the animals. If there is an emergency with any of the animal, this can be relayed straight back to the event organisers. Staff and volunteers will also stay on after the event to ensure the animals have settled before they leave.
These processes have been in place for all the years the event has been running and it is overseen by a very experienced team of staff and volunteers. The council is hugely grateful for all the work the staff and volunteers do. All animals at Pets’ Corner manage well during the fireworks display, and we have never encountered any issues. This is all thanks to the hard work of the team and the well-established preparations which are in place.
A big thank you to all the staff and volunteers at pets corner. We take out grandson there every week. He loves it. The animals always looked well cared for. You all do a great job. Keep up the good work. Thank you again.
Absolutely cruel to these animals no matter how much you are saying they are safe guarded. Their hearts race & they jump out of their skin, some can do themselves harm & there is nothing you are able to do, all for the loud bangs the fizzing the colours & to entertain people who still think it's a night to celebrate.....but it's not because it's not one night it goes on way before in October through to the end of November then again in the new year absolutely ludicrous. Harlow council need to either not do these displays or find a place where there are NO animals that it harms physically or mentally. I seem to remember pet corner going through something horrific at one point not so long ago & yet here you are right in the thick of Harlow town park letting off firework. Some councils have even cancelled the whole thing because of horses etc that live close by in fields, the noise from any fireworks can give any of these animals a heart attack. Any one who is stupid enough to have fireworks around animals need to think again. If the fear you put into them & also our pet at home. I strongly think & wish fireworks were completely banned as it's a stressful time for all living creatures & animals to suffer day in day out of fireworks, this also involves elderly people who it scares & very young children. Ban the whole existence of fireworks it brings nothing but fear to animals & humans. Spend the money on something worth spending it on. Maybe even give to these animal charities that you say you protect whilst your letting of fireworks!!!!!
Easier and better for the animals if they just site the display far away from this area. In fact reduce pollution, animal anxiety by not having any fireworks or displays.
follow Colchester's example
What a bunch of miserable, ungrateful, fretting kill joys you all are. This council has worked tirelessly to maintain the fireworks , regardless of party politics and who is in control of the council. Mammalian heart attacks dont work as you are describing. Habe a read up on that. Disregarding the historical cultural and constitutional significance of the 5th November is outrageous philistinism. Has a single animal in pets corner ever rolled over and turned up it's, claws, hooves, webbed feet or indeed fins EVER within 24 hours of the event over the years? From an evutionary point of view, given every animal in that place is a prey species they are hard wired to cope with stress. A few loud noises and flashing lights while.being fed and patted by your well known keeper is a far cry from being eviscerated by a pack of wolves. Chill out. Put your ear plugs in, pop on an eye mask and be miserable on your own. Go pontificate in a town where the finances are so poorly managed that they can't even contrive to put up a Christmas tree, let alone put on a 20 minute firework display. Talking of Christmas, should we cancel that aswell. There must be a reason you can all find? Let's aks a turkey their opinion ! I suspect their level of historic festival related anxiety far exceeds that of the animals.in pets corner one Sunday a year !
Maybe the organisers of the fire work display should use silent ones. Then need to care about the welfare of the animals, it's cruel.
Definitely time for silent fireworks or none at all.
A message to Joe bloggs self centered and self important narcissistic clown. I sometimes wonder what's it like to be flatulent all the time must be very painful being full of some much hot air
Well done Joe Bloggs 👏 such a load of misserable killjoys. Enjoy the little things in life and stop fĺippin moaning you lot. No animal likes loud noises but they wont bloody die. I think misserable people just want to spread misserableness to everyone else and don't know how to enjoy life.
It's becoming like a Circus first Joe bloggs he has now been joined by another clown The mysterious D wow really original name For the record some animals and sometimes humans do bloody die due to fireworks.
This display at harlow town park needs to be stopped it's just a nightmare for pets near and surrounding the town. Park also strays horses and elderly people it's just a joke enough is enough especially on a Sunday day if peace and quiet Not, just stop this pointless display of fireworks or get silent fireworks
