PAH bosses make appeal with A and E busy as new electronic patient record goes on line

Health / Sun 3rd Nov 2024 at 10:36am

PRINCESS Alexandra Hospital (PAH) bosses are appealing to the public as they report that the Accident and Emergency Department is very busy.

This coincides with the introduction of their Electronic Health Record (EHR) system going live.

A spokesperson said: “We are launching our new electronic health record system this weekend, and our emergency department is currently very busy.

“If you need urgent medical attention for a serious or life-threatening illness or injury, please dial 999. Remember that if it is not a serious or life-threatening illness or injury, call 111 or go to 111 online, visit your GP or your pharmacy for advice”.

YH has been contacted by a large number of readers who have reported that their appointments have been cancelled and/or rearranged. Some report that their new appointment is well into 2025.

We have also heard from staff who have expressed concerns regarding the number of doctor’s clinics cut as part of the “reduced capacity”

Patients and people who pay for the NHS make an appeal to the PAH and GPs to actually provide the service we pay for. Changing systems etc is not an excuse for more delays especially after people gave up so much at significant cost a few years ago to protect the NHS. How the NHS repays people for this is appalling arrogance.

I think we really are in trouble, I fear getting ill and needing hospital care. Too many things are now 'acceptable' and people are left to get on with whatever problems they have, no matter how much they impact on their lives. I don't know how front line staff are able to get themselves in to work every day know exactly what they are going to have to deal with. And that's without the problems caused by this. The state of the NHS snd the inability to see GPs or get even basic care should be political party's top priority.

Resident this is why I have private health care 240 a month for a family a gold standard, much better value for money than NI and the NHS.

That generally doesn't cover emergency care so you'll still have to rely in A&E and it usually has some kind of limitation on what's covered and how long for. As we're already paying for the NHS and a lot of people don't have the disposable income , or have conditions private health insurance would exclude, it's not an option for everyone. It's too late, when you're critically ill, to discover there's no functioning A&E left and you can't get an ambulance to get there in the first place
