Letter to Editor: Praise for new Hare Street Primary parking arrangements

Dear Editor,
I JUST wanted to applaud the staff at Hare Street Primary for their new initiative which block vehicular access to the cul de sac in Little Grove Field where the school sits.
The issues this has caused are innumerable with parents bumping the pavement, remonstrating with each other and has even seen the running over of a young child a few weeks ago. It had to stop.
This isn’t a new issue. Under the previous head, parents had brought this to his attention but were told this was ‘too complicated’ to sort.

Over the last few days, the current leadership and site team, along with the wonderful school crossing guard have simply stood at the entrance to the cul de sac allowing access to deliveries, blue badge holders and residents.
I cannot state how much of a difference this has made. Upon arrival to school every day, the children can cycle or scoot along the road, and we can walk without fear.
It is such a simple idea. I am simply flabbergasted as to why the previous head and deputy weren’t able to do something outside of simply not wanting to, Referring back to the original comments, children have been hit, adults have become confrontational and it shouldn’t be allowed to continue.
This, to me is a perfect example of a community in action – doing something simple that affects nearly 500 children and their families, this involved no more than a will do it,a few committed staff, a cross guard and 5 cones.
Well done Hare Street school.
Regards
A Hare Street parent.

At the end of the day . All previous headteacher and all staff have been an asset to hare street. It is the ignorance of the parents who are too blame too lazy to walk 50 yards to bring their children. The parents who park and drive up this cul de sac are the issue always have been , they ignore the signs and road markings . There would not be a problem or accidents if the parents behaved appropriately. So do not point the finger at staff from hare street school .
Russell - If a person (or several people) think it is their God given right to drive down a very narrow cul-de-sac, abandon their vehicle with 2 wheels on the footpath, and then manoeuvre said vehicle, in said cul de sac in such a manner they are putting numerous children and adults a risk, all for the sake of giving their little darling a 'door to door' chauffeur service to school - I think a little 'wilful obstruction' is not only perfectly acceptable, but also very sensible and absolutely necessary. This cul-de-sac is a residents only permit parking area, and the surrounding areas are on a double red line route. There is more than sufficient parking at the children's play area which is a short walk from the school, and the vast majority of parents use this. As stated above the closure is manned at all times, and access is given to residents, blue badge holders and deliveries. As a parent of children who attended Hare Street I fully support the action taken by Mr Coster and his team, and recognise the enormous difference it made to the safety and well-being of our children.
Russell, “stop oil” have proved you can do whatever you like on public roads without multiple convictions or even arrests, I don’t believe the authorities are going to be too upset about a cul-de-sac in Harlow.
Kj this is england in 2025 im afraid not the 1980s.
Harlow lifer.....I don't get your point?
Anonymous - this letter didn’t criticise the previous staff except to say that under the previous tenure it was deemed too complicated. They were lovely people, this isn’t a popularity contest. The current leadership team have acted (quite rightly) because one of their children was quite literally run over - you’re clearly more worried about who the more popular Head and Deputy are (whatever that means).
Gooner - pretty sure a chunk of the Just Stop Oil protestors were convicted and a fair few went to jail.....not sure where you get your news from!
