CONSTRUCTION at Arkwrights marks another stage in council housebuilding programme

Another council housing site has moved to the next stage of its development as construction begins at Arkwrights to make way for more homes for Harlow families.

Contractors from The Hill Group are now on site carrying out initial to deliver 8 three-bedroom new council homes. One of these homes will be adapted to include a fully accessible bathroom, kitchen and through floor lift.

This new development is on the site of a former underused garage block. All homes will be allocated to Harlow families on the Harlow Housing Needs Register.

In the past month the council’s housebuilding programme has gone up a gear, with activity starting at Sherards House, Elm Hatch and Arkwrights to complement the more advanced developments at Staple Tye and Woodleys. And there is more to come with preparation work for the Yorkes, Pytt Field and Potter Street sites.

This first phase of the council housebuilding programme will provide more homes for Harlow families thank in the last 30 years combined.

Councillor Dan Swords, the Leader of Harlow Council, says:

“We aren’t just talking about building council homes. We’re getting on with the job and delivering them for Harlow residents, rebuilding our town and investing in our housing.

“This development at Arkwrights will not only transform the area but provide high-quality homes for Harlow families.

“And we aren’t done yet – we have even more sites set to be active soon, with even more council homes for Harlow families on the way.”

I like the idea of the through floor lift. It shows Harlow Council are keeping up to date with technology. It also demonstrates that voting Conservative in Harlow delivers the goods for working people.

Absolutely horrible design, like many of the new housing areas built in Harlow. Such a pity when things could have been approached with a vision for Harlow to become truly great. The sad part is that they approve these designs and don’t even realise what quality looks like. Sad and unfortunately expensive and difficult to change later on. Good intentions, yet poor execution which in reality is what matters most. Get a quality London consulting firm to have an input on what you’re approving on architecture for the city
