VJ Day 80 commemoration event held in Harlow Town Park

AN event was held at Harlow Town park on Friday morning to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Japan Day (VJ Day).

The event was led by the chair of Harlow Council, cllr Andrew Johnson and Rev Albert Watson.

There were readings from speeches by George VI and prime minster, Clement Atlee.

There was also a reading by Harlow resident Pam Gillespie, whose father, George Money was a prisoner in the Far East.

George Money volunteered for the RAF and served in the Middle East before he was taken prisoner in Java.

There was also a number of traditional songs by the Candy Girls.
