Harlow refugee organisation details how members are told to “go home” and “take a boat trip”

AN AWARD winning organisation which for over twenty years has given support to vulnerable migrants and refugees has issued a statement detailing the abuse people have received in the past month.
A spokesperson said: “Hate crime is real — and it’s happening in our communities – and we will not stay silent.
Over the past month, we’ve heard heartbreaking stories from our service users. Strangers on the street have told them to “go home” or “take a boat trip.”
Members of our own staff have faced hateful abuse while going about their day — including being told they’d “soon go back home” in a local supermarket, and being told they are “taking space here” and should “leave the UK for British people”.
This is not just offensive – it’s a hate crime, and it’s unacceptable.

I hear the Reform party has some policies to deal with this issue using some rants about migrants being deported to some very nasty places if they ever had the chance to govern this country. And that would be an even greater nightmare than the current Tory-lite rubbish we have. Try using your real name and constructive comments Mr HadEnough. There absolutely nothing wrong with being concerned about the boat crossings and illegal immigration but shouting abuse at vulnerable people and causing damage to public property is not an acceptable form of protest.

ITV have their spokeswoman Susanna Reid to spit bile about Farrage and reform at every opportunity. HadEnough bit ironic you start by saying “that’s your opinion not backed by any facts” and then go on to make a string of opinions without offering any facts yourself. Claims about broadcasters being “notoriously left wing” or about Reform “knocking Labour out of existence” are exactly that, opinions. If we’re going to talk about facts, it might be worth you looking at actual evidence rather than just repeating assumptions.

Stafford, I base my opinions on being old enough to remember when it was easy to get a Doctors appointment, when a&e waiting times were not 10+ hours. When housing was readily available for local born citizens. When my children were not in 35+ classroom sizes. These are my facts that visually representable. This country can not handle the mass immigration, thay is a FACT

HadEnough I completely understand that your experiences shape how you see things but personal memories arent the same as facts. A and E waiting times, GP access, housing availability, class sizes and immigration all have actual data sets that can be looked at and the trends are usually more complex than “it was better before.” Its worth separating lived experience (which is valid) from statistical evidence (which is verifiable). Otherwise we risk presenting opinions as “facts”. Which is exactly what you accused others of doing.

The story in the news today of the women being assualted in a park in Halifax by two white British people just because she has a different colour skin - when she has lived in the UK for most of her life and works in the NHS - is the result of this so-called "patriotic" movement that's going on in the country at the moment. This is exactly what people on the far-right want - division, hatred and racial predjudice. And is exactly what the organisation in this article is talking about. This sort of thing makes me ashamed and not proud of some of the people in my country.

Could the lack of GP appoiments, A&E waiting times & the lack of social housing have anything to do with the fact that more & more constriction sites of 'affordable' housing are popping up everywhere. The lack of medical centre provision on these sites because the greedy developers fail to fulfill their promoses to build them so all new residents need to attend GP surgerys & hospitals that weren't built to cater with such large nos or cover such wide areas? Or is it just easier to blame immigration?

Mikel, this is where the full story stops any distortion. That event did not start off as a simple racist event. The Thai lady was born in Thailand but has lived in the U.K. for 15 years and worked as a nurse. The Thai lady called Apple was in their local park with her two daughters and parents. She approached a group of dog walkers in the park and asked them to put their dogs on their leads as one of her children felt uneasy about loose dogs. This upset some of the dog owners who had their own opinion so upto this point, race was not part of the dispute. Both sides then escalated it and one couple then went way beyond reasonable and began racist insults and a deranged tirade against Apple. Those two quite rightly have been arrested, it was a reasonable requested but they went on a full rampage.
