THE CHIEF executive of the Princess Alexandra Hospital has issued a statement in light of the hospital being places 120th out of 134 in a new government ranking system.

Thom Lafferty, chief executive at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT), said: “We understand we are currently within segment four of the new National Oversight Framework.
“Whilst the national framework has changed, our performance across most standards is improving, including emergency department waiting times and our financial and workforce-related performance measures. However, we remain on an improvement journey and are taking radical steps across the organisation to address areas of long-standing performance challenges.
“This includes working with partners to ensure our population receive more timely and proportionate care across West Essex, making internal changes to improve our effectiveness, and using digital technology to manage waiting lists, including the new My Alex Health Patient Portal with increased access and control for patients to their health records, appointment information, test results and more.
“We are committed to improving our services for our patients and are looking forward to this being reflected in National Oversight Framework data in the future.”
unless it is his resignation and that of the senior team who cares. No one is ever held to account in the public sector.
Another useless boss making too much money and not doing a good job
Spot on Adam Taylor. PAH CEO Thom Lafferty mentions digital technology, but fails to mention the junkets to Las Vegas and the tens of thousands of cancelled operations due to Electronic Patient Record. Also, no mention of the drains which is proving a nice little earner for drain clearance firms which can be seen at the rear of the restaurant on a weekly basis. It's also worth remembering that PAH were forced by an Employment Tribunal (ET) in October 2023 to pay compensation for two acts of disability discrimination. In addition the ET demanded: "The tribunal recommends that those with direct reports working in the respondent’s Accident and Emergency Department, undertake training on Disability Awareness, on the law on disability, and on unconscious bias in relation to disability." Mr Lafferty's statement seems rather smug for the person in overall charge of a hospital ranked 120th out of 130.
He doesn't mention about all the job losses that's happening across the hospital either.
Lol, what a dump!!!!!!
This is one of the primary reasons why every department hires only friends and family, from maids to cleaners. Additionally, there are no offenses, but how can this hospital possibly promote only English nationality? The rest of the background will obviously not be pleased to come to work. Before this scandal airs on BBC News, wake up, Mr. Tom.
I agree with alot of the sentiment and it is a shame the fall of PAH . I appreciate some have bad experiences which are totally valid ( And some not as sometimes patients are their own worse enemy) but I consider the following: 1. The new Chief Exec has inherited alot of work from the previous. The guy is still brand new to running the trust after years of mismanagement from previous Chief Executives ( including one who was in alot of legal trouble and somehow got hired ) 2. There is definitely alot of jobs for mates in that place and the good ones get shafted and end up leaving. As is the case with the Estates team that went to Lister and look how they ranked. 3. There is currently zero morale at that hospital for frontline staff, especially with news of job losses that seems to have avoided the local press. Where they are messing with how the structure is and getting rid of alot of management but before any beats their chest and saying good , guess what it is not the high banding managers who do nothing but strategy and planning. It is the lower ones, the ones who answer your complaints, who do the running around trying to solve problems, the ones are the bottom of the management pyramid. 4. There is no public trust in PAH with the failings of the new computer system decided by huge money deals that the higher ups said yes to but the lower management how to deal with , the problems it caused, the cancellations it resulted in. The poor clinicians who have to see patients with poor support. I think personally this should be a sign where the public should have greater involvement in the runnings of their trusts , have more insight into what is going, all the changes and not just blaming management. There are three tiers to management : Service Management, Divisional and Executive. So far the plan by sounds of it is destroy your Service Management the people trying to make a difference. But Divisional and Executive, i believe i spotted a deputy exec being advertised on NHS jobs another high paid job for nothing. Blame not all the staff, blame the captain but to his credit Mr Thom has taken on a sinking ship but at this stage feels like he is bailing a ship that is already has a massive gash in it. sorry for the ramblings of a hungover man but this is just my two cents. Feel free to argue as is your god given right .
