THE Harvey Centre is delighted to announce that it will be hosting an exciting Family Fun Day on Saturday 11th October between 11am – 5pm, bringing the community together for a joyful celebration of Pride, love, and inclusivity.

The shopping centre will be transformed into a vibrant hub of colour, music and creativity, with a host of entertainment and activities for all ages. Visitors can look forward to live DJ sets, spectacular tribute performances to Freddie Mercury and Lady Gaga, and stunning stilt walkers bringing energy and excitement to the day. Families can also enjoy face painting, glitter tattoos, and craft workshops designed to spark creativity in both children and adults.
To capture the memories, there will be rainbow props and selfie stations to enjoy along with free giveaways.
The event is completely free to attend and everyone is welcome to join in, making it the perfect opportunity to spend the day with family and friends while celebrating diversity, love and togetherness.
The Harvey Centre would also love to hear from local LGBTQ+ community groups who would like to get involved in the event. For more information, please contact [email protected].
Despite public alarm over the years re. the sexualisation of children be it through the sale of inappropriate clothing in stores or exposure to inappropriate online content, which the Online Safety Act was only recently introduced to tackle, it is inexplicable how the Council-owned Harvey Centre can be promoting a Pride event to families on 11th October. By its own definition: "Pride is important as it celebrates LGBTQ+ identity and culture, promoting visibility and acceptance for diverse sexual orientations and gender identities." To therefore lure children with the promise of glitter tattoos and stilt walkers to celebrate "diverse sexual orientations" surely runs contrary to the goal of preserving children's innocence, and is both cynical and disturbing. The Council needs to think again.
Total waste of public money especially in these times of financial crisis brought on by this so called time for change AKA Chaos government, I am a liberal thinker and don’t care how people live their lives, however, I do not want to see people cavort about pushing their way of life into our faces
It is against the law in the UK to discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community. Socially and culturally it is accepted that there should be no exclusion or humiliation directed towards anyone. Therefore it is a battle Pride won a long time ago. So what is the purpose now of keeping these issues high profile? Although ‘diversity’ is supposedly what is celebrated the headline act is all things non heterosexual. It seeks to promote people constantly re-examining their sexual preferences. I agree with Stephen Thompson - we do not need sexual preferences aired in public. It’s a private matter and we already have society’s permission to indulge our sexual preferences, whatever they are, in whatever way we want within the law. Public displays of affection do not raise any eyebrows either. So what is the point of this movement?
