New Harlow Green Party leader looks to future
Politics / Wed 5th Nov 2025 at 10:08am
LAST week, Jennifer Steadman became leader of the Harlow Green Party.
We asked Ms Steadman for a few words.
Ms Steadman said: “Stepping into the shoes of a leader as formidable as Yasmin Van Der Poel is no small task.
“However, the knowledge and experience I’ve gained from her exceptional leadership will stand me in good stead as I take on the role of Harlow Green Party Chair. I will be forever grateful for Yasmin’s skills, expertise, and guidance over the past years.

“With the huge influx of new members since Zack Polanski became leader, our local membership has more than doubled.
“It’s especially encouraging to see so many new younger members joining us — helping us reach a wider audience who recognise and share our values for a sustainable and just society for all.
These are the values we believe in for Harlow and will work together to ensure they are carried forward in our everyday lives as Harlow Green Party members.
These are truly exciting times for the Harlow Greens, and I am deeply honoured to have been elected Chair. I look forward to working alongside our incredible, hardworking team and all our new members. I want to sincerely thank them for their support thus far and for the support I know they will give me as we all move forward together for Harlow.
There’s so much to look forward to for the Green Party, so to borrow one of Zack’s phrases- “Let’s make hope normal again.”
“Real Hope Real change for the people of Harlow”.
We are all behind you Jennifer Steadman - you've already started being a brilliant Chair!
Harlow Green Party and the people of Harlow are in safe hands with Jennifer and the rest of the team. Jennifer has a place at the national party table and has shaped national policies. Our own Green Goddess!
I would suggest the Green Party venture into the outer reaches of Harlow, such as Katherines and Sumners. Not seen or heard from them up this end of town. Not driving up here I understand, but bicycles and footwear are available. If your representatives bikes aren't working, then I offer to fix them free of labour charge - so no excuses. The Labour Party are toast, so really an open door to push at.
I agree with David. We need to get some door knocking going around greygoose, deer and fir park. Win some voters from the tories. I will volunteer to join you. X
Thank you David. You must have read my mind. Our next meeting on November 26th at 7pm is being held at the Herald Public House in the Katherines and ofcourse we would welcome anyone to come along to join us. My plans have always been to hold meetings all around the town both in the evening and daytime in order to be accessible and visible to everyone. If anyone would like to know more about us and join us in friendly informal surroundings please do come along to the Herald. Harlow Green Party members are active all over the town. We regularly attend Council meetings raising questions regarding issues that affect the entire town. Our candidates in each ward regularly report potholes, street litter, broken or damaged signage, fly tipping etc We welcome input and suggestions from any resident and offers of help and support are always gratefully accepted. We look forward to meeting you all.
Congrats Jennifer, after seeing your interest in politics from back on the ARC days when bumped into you for a chat or outside voting station, I think the party will be in good hands. Thanks for the wildlife rescue too if still doing it. Now, get out there and give people something other than Reform to vote for as that's the way it is going sadly.
As I voted for the Green party last year and hope any progress will be seen at the local elections. And as with Mr Forman I hope the candidate will actually be seen in Potter Street.
Dear Jennifer, many thanks for responding to the comments, something which other politicians could learn from. This is just a point of information to explain that the the Herald pub is in Sumners, not Katherines. This error highlights how little work has been done at that end of town. Anyhow, I sincerely look forward to meeting you on November 26 at 7pm at the Herald pub, Broadley Road, Sumners, Harlow CM19 5RD.
I forgot to say I'll arrive on foot, not via a gas guzzling pickup.
Gary Roberts, I am the prospective Green Party candidate for Potter Street at the next election next May. We supported the fete on the green last May, I've already contacted one of your locals, we will be supporting the Potter Street in Bloom group, and I will take an active interest in the small development planned neat the Harlow Common Road. Please feel free to contact me through our FB page or at [email protected] if you want to discuss any Potter Street issues, and I will try to help.
Thank you David, I inadvertently omitted the words in the Katherines 'end of town' so do appreciate that you highlighted my error to ensure folks can find the venue on the night. Looking forward to seeing you on the 26th.
Congratulations Jennifer on your new role as Chair. Your persistent work ethic, resilience, dedication, and a reliability to achieve goals. I look forward to working with you and the great things we will accomplish for our community.
Anythings better than this useless Labour government, but the country is ruined ,the greens haven't a chance.
The very best of luck jen.x
Zina . Perhaps you should vote for Harlow Alliance Party, they knock on doors on the parks
