Basketball: Harlow Hawks earn great away win against Bucks

Sport / Sun 28th Dec 2025 at 10:10am

HERE are two match reports for the Harlow Hawks for December. Thank you to Shab and their team for the reports.

Bucks Hornets 56 v 64 Harlow Hawks – 9th December 2025

Harlow Hawks travelled to Bucks Hornets on Tuesday night for what turned out to be a
disciplined and well-managed away performance. The opening exchanges were slow, with
both teams trading baskets and feeling each other out. It was a low-scoring first quarter that
finished level at 18–18 — no major issues on either end, just solid defence and patient
offence from both sides.

Bucks protected the interior well, closing off the key consistently, but Hawks responded by
taking the right shots at the right time. When the outside looks were there, Hawks confidently
knocked them down. The second and third quarters followed the same rhythm, with neither
side able to pull away for long as baskets were traded regularly. It remained a very balanced
contest through three quarters.

The fourth quarter is where the Hawks shifted gears. With renewed intensity and composure,
they built a small gap, then exploded on a 10–0 run with four minutes to play, pushing the
lead out to 60–50. From that moment on, the team played smart basketball: controlling
tempo, protecting the ball, and tightening up defensively. Bucks had chances to claw back
into the game but missed key free throws and a handful of easy looks, while Hawks stayed
composed and closed the game out professionally.

A fantastic all-round team performance and a well-earned away win.

Hemel Wolves 60 v 62 Harlow Hawks – Friday 12th December

Harlow Hawks travelled to Hemel on Friday night and came away with a hard-fought
two-point victory after a closely contested game that remained in the balance until the final
moments.

The opening quarter set the tone for the evening, with both sides trading baskets and neither
able to establish early control. Hawks moved the ball well and found success from the
perimeter, while Hemel responded through physical drives and quick ball movement. The
pace was high and the quarter reflected the even nature of the contest.

The second quarter followed a similar pattern, with momentum swinging back and forth.
Hawks continued to share the scoring load and showed good composure against defensive
pressure, while Hemel capitalised on turnovers to keep the scoreboard tight. Neither team
managed to build a meaningful cushion, and the game remained finely poised going into the
second half.

After the break, Hawks raised their defensive intensity and began to generate stops and
steals, converting them into points at the other end. Hemel answered with timely shooting of
their own, preventing Hawks from pulling clear. The third quarter again saw both teams
matched basket for basket, setting up a tense final period.

The fourth quarter was played with real urgency. Hawks attacked the basket aggressively
and executed well in key moments, converting crucial field goals and free throws down the
stretch. Hemel stayed in touch throughout and continued to apply pressure, but Hawks
showed strong composure late on, protecting the ball and making important defensive plays
to hold on for a narrow two-point win at the buzzer.

This was a strong away performance built on resilience, shared scoring, and composure
under pressure. Hawks showed maturity in closing out a tight game and will take confidence
from executing effectively in the closing stages against a competitive Hemel side.
