Crime / Mon 18th May 2026 at 08:58am
FIRE crews were called to the fourth fire in as many weeks in a small section of Harlow.
An Essex Fire spokesperson said: “We were called to Third Avenue on Sunday at 10.04pm.

“Two crews from Harlow attended and extinguished a fire affecting a shed and a wooded area.
“Crews left at 11.01pm”.
This follows the large house fire on May 3rd, a car fire nearby plus a fire on Saturday.
YH has contacted Essex Police to establish if they are investigating.
Mr Hutton - While I agree with your point, and in a better country that would be commended, sadly here in the UK the police will charge you for taking the law in to your own hands. Or as it is really known showing the police crime can be solved.
To Adam... Section 24A of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 outlines the powers of a civilian (anyone other than a police officer) to make an arrest without a warrant in the UK. I totally agree with you Mr Hutton these people should be named and shamed and forced into the police So Adam before you comment make sure you know the laws....
Adam mate really ever heard off Section 24A if the guy finds someone on land not owned by them or he sees them doing something suspicious he can arrest them and take them to the police station. Mr Hutton would say he acted on section24A and nothing would happen to Mr Hutton.. So go for it Hutton I'm on your side here! The people who are setting fires need to be taught a hard lesson. If you give me your contact details Mr Hutton I'll join you with watching over the land
I know the law, I made a citizens arrest decades ago. I also know the reality that who ever he arrests will make counter accusations these days and he will be be lucky to not get arrested.
feral chav offspring that continue to give Harlow a good name. Be proud.
I would say let the police do there Jobs. But it's hard when you're properly is being damaged l have ever simperfy for this man. But if you do catch them try to hold them there till the police show up and try to stay calm. (I know whot l would like to do with them but that's not printable) 😮💨😡
A long time ago i know but the same building i think. https://planningonline.harlow.gov.uk/online-applications/files/DB65BA27FFE199BAA7296939E4A89AA1/pdf/HW_PL_09_00278-PLANNING_APPLICATION_FORM-867548.pdf
You can make a citizens arrest, but if the person you are arresting decides not to co operate then there is nothing you can do. I caught someone once and phoned police. They said they were too busy to attend and that I could make a citizen arrest. Unfortunately the person said no and they police said I had to let them go as restraining or stopping them from leaving would constitute assault or false imprisonment. Make of this what you will
