Police Divisional Commander issues statement over series of fires in Harlow
Crime / Thu 21st May 2026 at 01:03pm
OFFICERS are investigating a series of fires reported in Harlow this month.
Each of the incidents took place on abandoned or unoccupied land off Third Avenue.
Throughout May, police have been called to several fires affecting derelict sheds, a garage and a parked vehicle.

Enquiries into each incident are ongoing, and officers are keeping an open mind as to whether there is any link between them.
As part of the investigation, officers will be carrying out regular patrols in the affected area and working closely with council colleagues to explore whether further measures, such as improved lighting or CCTV, can be put in place.

Investigators will also explore forensic opportunities and work to identify and secure any witness accounts.
Anyone with information or footage that could help our investigation is urged to come forward.

Chief Inspector Emily Holmes said:
“We understand the concern these incidents will cause locally and want to reassure residents that we are taking them extremely seriously.
“We’re working closely with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, the local council and other partners to build a clear picture of what’s happening and to reduce the risk of further fires.
“Where criminal offences are identified, we will pursue them robustly and take action against those responsible.”
