Letter to Editor: Future of Potter Street neighbour hood office

Your Say / Wed 10th Jun 2026 at 08:58am

Dear Editor,

Here is a letter I have written to the councillors who represent Potter Street.

Dear councillors,

I write to you with respect to the future of the former Potter Street council neighbourhood office that has remained empty for over 24 years.

It was closed against the will of local residents by the then Conservative/Liberal coalition council and has remained so since thus depriving the area of locally based council services. Add to that the closure of the local doctor’s surgery in 2018 and you get the sense of the Potter Street community being forgotten.

In light of these facts I would like to suggest a way forward for the use of this office. In short a positive regeneration of the building.

My suggestion would be that the building be used to support two functions: A doctor’s surgery and a council office to provide residents’ with services they need.

Now from my extensive experience of contacting and dealing with councillors of all shades of the political spectrum  over decades in this town their lack of replying is a serious, disrespectful and sad reflection of today.

However, given that my suggestions on moving forward with the former Potter Street council neighbourhood office are offered with respect and courtesy I would at the very least expect an acknowledgement.

Keep well.

Yours faithfully,

Please note that every councillor on Harlow council received my email except Cllr Colleen Morrison who on her council page wants to be contacted by text. To date only 3 councillors have replied. None who represent Potter Street. Am I surprised no.
