Construction work to begin on Glebeland and Potters Field playgrounds

CONSTRUCTION work has started on two major playground transformations as Harlow Council invites families to help shape the next phase of improvements across the town.

Playgrounds at Glebelands and Potters Field are currently being redeveloped and are due to reopen in July. Once complete, Potters Field will feature more than 70 new play elements, while Glebelands will include over 40. Both sites will benefit from safer, more inclusive and more enjoyable equipment for children of all ages, alongside a refreshed look and feel designed to last for years to come.

As these projects involve full playground replacements, both sites will remain closed to families for the duration of the works.

The playground transformation programme forms part of the council’s mission to “renew our neighbourhoods” by investing in high-quality facilities for local families.

Later this year, further major upgrades are planned at the following playgrounds:

  • Hodings Road (Hester House)
  • Katherines Playing Field (Tithelands)
  • Latton Bush Park
  • Swallows
  • Willowfield

Children, young people and their parents who use these playgrounds are being encouraged to help shape the designs and decide what new equipment is installed.

Families can share their views by completing a short online survey at: https://letstalk.harlow.gov.uk/playground-equipment. The survey closes on 22 June.

Each playground also features a poster with a QR code linking directly to the survey, and local schools will be contacted to encourage participation.

Councillor Nicky Purse, Cabinet Member for Environment and Enforcement, said:

“I’m delighted that work has started on transforming playgrounds in Glebelands and Potters Field, with many more to follow as we continue to renew our neighbourhoods.

“What’s especially important is that the families who use these spaces will help shape what comes next. We want children, young people and parents to have their say so these playgrounds truly reflect what local communities need and enjoy.

“Playgrounds sit at the heart of our communities – they are places where children develop confidence, friendships are formed and families spend time together.

“This programme is about much more than new equipment. It’s about creating high-quality, inclusive spaces that support healthier lifestyles, strengthen community pride and make our neighbourhoods even better places to live.

“This is another important step as we deliver our ambition for Building Harlow’s Future.”
