IT was another full programme of cricket for Harlow Town across the Herts and Essex Border League and beyond, with three league sides and a Sunday XI all in action over a busy weekend that produced two emphatic victories, a concession, and a spirited friendly defeat. While the results varied, there was plenty for the Townies to take forward as the season edges deeper into its decisive phase.

The standout performance came from the 1st XI, who produced a ruthless display in Division Two, brushing aside Nazeing Common 2nd XI by eight wickets. A disciplined bowling effort led by Anil Clarke and Sam Wilson restricted the hosts before Wilson (53) and Daniel Baldwin (68*) orchestrated a rapid chase, underlining Town’s growing authority in the promotion hunt.

In Division Three, the 2nd XI collected maximum points after Bancroft Lions Lion Hawks conceded, a reminder that while no cricket was played, every point may prove crucial in a tight league campaign. The side will nonetheless be eager to return to action and maintain momentum on the field.

The 3rd XI produced arguably the most dominant all-round performance of the weekend, dismantling Dunmow 4th XI in Division Four. Ash Mohammed’s dazzling unbeaten 103 off 55 balls headlined a comprehensive chase, while Daniel Hawkins and Luke Luckin shared six wickets between them as Dunmow were dismissed for 137. The victory further strengthens Town’s position as genuine contenders in their division.

On Sunday, the friendly XI were involved in a high-scoring and competitive encounter with Thorley CC, ultimately falling short despite a composed 58 from Gary Spiers with supporting contributions from Roger Taylor (27) and Luke Luckin (13) and a spirited bowling effort led by Oliver Rowell and a returning Sarass Kanakan, however Isaac Waters’ unbeaten 56 proved decisive for the visitors in a valuable contest that reinforced the importance of extended match practice.

Across the weekend, the common thread was clear: when Town clicked, they did so emphatically. With batting firepower across multiple sides and wicket-taking options emerging throughout the club, the Townies continue to build encouraging depth as the summer unfolds.
